Short version: I had an amazing time in Sicily, I think I ate my body weight in cannoli, the food was amazing, Sicilians are insane drivers, it was very quiet and the weather was just right.
It was a bit sad, but I guess it was a trade-off - you can't get deserted beaches and historic ruins AND bustling tourist spots, unless you go massively off the beaten track.
Wow, that looks so beautiful. I'd love to visit ruins like that one of these days - I've seen so many old castles and cities, but never an old temple like that.
Same! I've seen medieval castles and cities, Roman ruins, prehistoric stone circles and burial mounds, but I don't think I've ever seen classical temples like this. Or maybe I was taken as a kid, but I don't remember.
I've never been further South than France - my dad is a Scandinavia fan (he even drives a ... wait for it... Volvo), so our family holidays have always been oriented towards the North. On the plus side, apart from the obligatory castles and cathedrals and whatnot, I've seen tons of Viking sites. Still, as impressive as old cathedrals and castle ruins are, I imagine it's very different to see something like a Greek temple.
It was so amazing to have places like the temples at Agrigento practically to ourself. It's not a time of year I've ever really travelled before - mainly because being English I'm usually desperate for warmth and sunshine on my holidays!
