It says something about a movie when, coming out of the cinema, you're more excited about the two-minute post-credits scene than the two hours of movie that came before.

My opinion exactly. I loved Yukio, man, she was awesome. And Mariko who was, in her own way, a very strong character too, though she was more of a noble lady. But the rest... It wasn't bad. Just boring ( ... )

Yes, you're right, the fleshing out of the back story helped. I mean, obviously if you were into the comics you knew the back story, but there's a difference between knowing it and seeing/feeling it.

And yes, the chemistry was amazing - seeing that in XMFC you could really understand why Charles would still be holding out hope for Erik after so many years, and why Erik still had those complex emotions for Charles, friendship and guilt all mixed up.

You don't SEE him, per se - you see the brain-dead person he'd been talking about earlier in the movie, and you see Moira coming to check the vital stats, and then you're hear Charles' voice - so it's implied he somehow transferred his consciousness into a new body. But at the end of Wolverine he looks like himself (and I read somewhere in the comic he had a twin who was born brain-dead or something because of the impact of Charles' powers in the womb or something?) IDK.
