The Wolverine...

It says something about a movie when, coming out of the cinema, you're more excited about the two-minute post-credits scene than the two hours of movie that came before.

I get why they're doing the stand-alone Wolverine movies, because of all of the characters from the X-Men movies he was by far and away the standout character, and Hollywood is Hollywood, after all.

That said, I just don't think they work. Not that Hugh Jackman can't carry a movie, because unf, have you seen those shoulders? I just think Wolverine as a character works best when he's playing off someone, when he's the rogue outsider reluctantly harnessed to a team. These two Wolverine movies just haven't worked for me.

Hence why I was more excited about the post-credits scene... Erik! Charles! Working together again! Erik has his powers back! Charles isn't dead! Which we knew anyway, of course, after the post-credits scene from X-Men 3: The Last Stand - and there's another shining example of two minutes of post-credits scene that was more exciting than the actual movie.

And you know, I find it so interesting that pre-X-Men: First Class they were always Professor Xavier and Magneto to me, and now, after James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender they're Charles and Erik. Is it it just because they made them young and hot and slashy? I'd like to think I'm not that shallow, but...

Yeah, I am that shallow.
