Wow. I've never had anyone's adoration simply for correct use of language.
My mum was quite strict with me on my pronunciation as a kid ("teeth" not "teef"), and when I was at secondary school I lived with my Dad and Stepmum, and she was a primary school English teacher, which helped.
I'd consider myself good at writing, but not great. Grammar was generally my weaker point, although I think I've improved quite a bit.
I must admit I get annoyed when I read a sentence where the writer has mixed up "they're", "their", and "there".

Just to reply to myself, as I can't edit my post - I do however understand if the writer's first language isn't English. Plus, we all make mistakes when we are tired...
The financial sector does use a lot of Perl, but they pay well for obvious reasons; hard work, long hours, high-stress environment. I'm not sure I'm that desperate to have more money.

Senior Perl Developer (I presume you count as this?)
Also Senior Perl Developer and they're paying how much!?!?!? (I need to learn Perl :-p ).
Perl and Javascript - £35 - 40k
Perl Dev for stock market software - £30 - 45k (and probably stock market tips?)
From JobTube:
"Perl Deverloper [sic] - Moving into Management" in the financial information market - £40 - 60k (or is that £50-60k, it's not well entered)
And another Perl Developer for the financial market role
