When I dislike someone, I tend to dislike everything I associate with them. This is especially true of old relationships. I just heard a song that one ex-boyfriend used to play for me (and sing along with, despite his tone-deafness) and I used to love the song. But when I heard it again it was an awful lot like a sweet candy that I ate too much of ( Read more... )

I have similar problems sometimes. Mine and Rafi's song, "Beloved," I've managed to conquer because I love VNV Nation, and that song, far too much to give it up. But I have issues with other things that remind me of my exes.

Yeah but this isn't even something I care about trying to like again. The relationship I associated with it was such a long time ago... and I don't even like that band anymore! I just can't believe that after so much time, I still have this active distaste for things that remind me of this particular guy, who still disgusts me any time I'm reminded of him.

The funny thing is, I wasn't consciously aware that the song was reminding me of him when I heard it. I started listening this song, and there was that saccharine yucky nausea that I got from it, and I had to think for a moment to try to remember why that song, out of all of them, was so icky. It's been over 6 years since I've seen that guy, and I rarely ever think about him. I wonder if the aftertaste will ever fully go away. I hope it does... it's nasty.
