My, erm, "unique" personal take on "One Night with the King"

...Okay, I should probably preface this by telling you the following story regarding the movie trailer for One Night with the King:

Over winter break, I went to see The Illusionist with my mom and dad at the dollar show (I had already seen it, they hadn't). And one of the previews that played before it was for One Night with the KingNow up until ( Read more... )

Of course, Katie later remarked she was more bemused by the running commentary I tend to make while watching movies than anything.

I do that too! I think it probably makes anyone I watch films or TV with want to kill me.

But James Callis being arabian and villainous, you say? Hmm.

unless you might want to see James Callis lurk in the shadows sexily for two hours, because then by all means RUSH

Okay, I'll rush!

I blame MST3K, personally. They taught me that such behavior was not only socially exceptable but hilarious.

Okay, I'll rush!

You do that, because, seriously, UHN.

Heh. I'm sure if I paid any sort of attention to the Old Testament at all in bible school, I might have had more of a reaction to that. As it was, I only recognized Esther by name alone, and I pretty much went into this movie, knowing he was in it, as:

"Wonder if he'll be a good guy or a bad guy?"
*Haman shows up, wearing all black and ranting about killing Jews*
"Ah, I see. Bad guy it is."

Oh, yeah. Big tip-offs, there. Ohhhh Hollywood...

I was thinking of these Jewish cookies, hamantaschen, that are shaped like triangles with fruit or chocolate inside and are generally served on Purim (a.k.a. the Jewish yay-Esther-didn't-sell-out Holiday). My professor in Modern Judaism brought them up, and said that even though hamantashchen are supposed to represent the hat that Haman wore to the Jewish kids who eat them in the United States, in other parts of the world, hamantaschen are meant to be Haman's ears.

Hee hee. Nibbling on Baltar's ears... Wa ha ha...!!!

......um, if that idea vaguely turns me on in unspecific ways, does that make me evil? I hope not.

What I find entertaining is that you've written this up during Purim, the Jewish holiday that celebrates Esther and the killing of Hamon. It's a night, essentially, to dress up in costume and party because they were going to die and the guy that wanted to kill them was killed instead. You know, the entire movie.

I figured out at the end that the movie was about the story of Purim (they say as much at the conclusion of the movie) but i had no idea that holiday was going on right now. Heh, life is odd.

Whoa. I figured one of your roomies was Jewish, which was why they dragged it out. Coincidence.

Actually, Tricia (the girl that owns the DVD) is a big Catholic.
Of course, Esther is part of the Christian Old Testament as well, technically.
