[Comment] Roll over vs Roll Under in RPG Sytems

So, I've come to the conclusion that I much prefer 'Roll Under' mechanics in RPGs than 'Roll Over'. In otherwords, I feel more comfortable with rolling under a set number (be it skill, skill+attitude, etc.) rather than trying to be a target number set by the GM by rolling the die and adding bonuses ( Read more... )

I have come to prefer roll under systems too, as they usually require one less step. Though I am happy either way TBH.

I also have a bit of a weakness for 'success' based systems too. Although they can often be complex.

The biggest issue I find with roll under systems is finding a satisfactory opposed roll mechanic. The best is the highest success wins, but that seems counterintuitive as rolling low is a good thing in roll under.
