If you don't make it safe for people to say "this is how I see the world, and I know it's wrong, so please correct me" (by asking questions that are obviously full of misconceptions and ignorance), you're playing your own part in suppressing knowledge. I haven't been to school since 6th grade, so my knowledge of the world (particularly science and history) is seriously lacking. When I hear people talking about biology or chemistry or US history or art history or politics, I ... am completely silent, because I KNOW my questions will be the kind that make me seem stupid. If I felt safe and accepted, even with my swiss-cheese-like concept of the world, the holes in my knowledge would me filled in SO.MUCH. faster -- I mean, learning from dialogue is just different in a way that Wikipedia can't match.
So if you love knowledge, make it safe for people to reach for it, even if doing so would reveal that they're on a lower level than you.
You have some good points there, and I will agree.
However, you are different from these people. Trust me. You have the want and the will to learn. You care about knowledge, you want to attain that knowledge, and you do it in your own way, but at least you care enough to try.
These people are different from you. These people do not care for knowledge, nor do they try. All they want is an easy class to get an easy grade. If they cared enough, they would have tried themselves. I say this having talked with them outside of the classroom. I know what these people are like.
