Amazing Grace

I decided to go into this film with low expectations. I'd seen the clips and I know Ioan Gruffudd's acting could save anything but I didn't want this film to be preachy or sombre or just completely draining and depressing.

And it wasn't any of those things. In fact, it was brilliant.

A very strong cast with a bunch of actors I recognise and now can't find where from! IMDB has failed me, but whatever, they all act very well. And it was actually really funny!

No, seriously, in some places it was laugh-out-loud funny and the witty banter between Wilberforce and Pitt the Younger was really good to watch. Yet it got its message across, and talked about God without making me twitch in the 'atheists won't buy it' kinda way.

The battle with parliament, corruption, greed, illness, priorities and callings all surfaced in this film and I really, really enjoyed it. I'm actually going to buy it.

It helped that Wilberforce and Pitt were sweetly slashy, and also Equiano and Clarkson had a moment (whilst one of them was already dead - why does this keep happening to me?). Ioan also has a lovely singing voice.

In other words, go and see it. Like, now.
