glad fandom tidings, mostly

First off let me brag. I got lovely fanart for one of my Homestuck fics - Gamzee and Karkat hanging out (SFW, if you don't mind a bare chest), for this (NSFW) fic about what would happen if Gamzee underwent pupation, as a teenaged bug-based alien might.* I keep looking at Karkat's expression, it's perfect. "PUT A SHIRT ON. And don't eat anyone. Oh ( Read more... )

Yay, fanart! \o/
I keep cooing over it. it makes me happy.

- movie fandoms are weird to me because I'm used to extended canons that have lots of details to play with. Although by now I'm thinking of the Marvel movies as one big canon, so I guess I'm mentally circumventing that.

- Even Odin's all right by me. He has reasonably good intentions, if devastatingly poor decision-making skills, and did treat Loki unfairly. Keep telling yourself you're "all-wise", Odin old buddy. At the same time I can see how those kinds of mistakes build up in everyday life and I have some sympathy with it.

Heimdall doing whatever he likes is really fun. I like how he's part Very Loyal Soldier and partly a wildcard. And he's the one that has the most mythic atmosphere out of all the gods & monsters, which is cool.

- Lol about Laufey. He did look pretty appealing, I guess (I just hadn't been thinking of it as "hot" until now). It's the voice. And having more than an ounce of common sense, which up to that point in the movie was sorely lacking. (Loki's ( ... )

I have the same "recent adaptation purism" thing going! It seems really weird half the time when people mix the myths and the movie - the movie doesn't really carry that sense of epic weirdness that myths have. I don't mind the comic canon being added, though, since it mostly seems to be in reasonbly well-integrated ways.

And then Thor tells him how wise he is. Maybe he's just being nice. Or trying not to get banished.
*snort* Well, it's probably easy to see how wise Odin is when it works in your favour... But it would have been good to have Thor pick another description than wise, right then.

there's this sense, to me, that everything the younger generation is doing is kind of petty in comparison, whereas there's a serious conflict about serious things here...YES. This is why I was disappointed about Laufey's death this time. The older folks have history and kingdoms behind them, while the younger guys are still trying to sort themselves out, mostly. Both are compelling but I'd have loved to see more of the older folks' stuff ... ( ... )
