re Japan vs. Paraguay: PENALTY SHOOTOUTS ARE A BLIGHT ON THIS EARTH

And a meme taken ages ago from metaphand:
- everyone has dirty fandom secrets or guilty pleasures or unpopular opinions.
- list five of yours.
- get cries of OMG YOU TOO or WTF ARE YOU SMOKING
- profit.

my nerd rage extends beyond 5. Also, spoilers from the 280s and up for KHR. )

I wish to say that: thelovemafia June 30 2010, 15:44:06 UTC
Today one of the people in my office returned from South Africa with a vuvuzela, which he proceeded to blow TWICE in my office. I think I saw this post of yours a little before his impromptu concert performance.

... I MUST CONFESS I WOULD EAT THAT TURDUCKEN. TO TRY WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE. I MAY BRING MY NATION LOW AS WELL.

I love reading Unpopular Fandom Opinions, especially when they coincide with mine! I have this bad habit of dismissing my unpopular opinions as Clearly It's Just Me.

General: no FST ever should contain Owl City. Possibly the world shouldn't contain Owl City, but I don't want it to sound like I'm making death threats against the kid, I just wish he had the ability to write lyrics.
CLEARLY YOU MAY NEVER WISH TO SPEAK TO ME AGAIN AFTER THIS, BUT I NOW FEEL COMPELLED TO TELL YOU I WAS DEBATING STUFFING THIS TRACK INTO A VESER(/? +?) LEE FST: (I decided no purely on the basis that it was TOO GIRLY):

Lemme tell you, the people from outside the country have embraced the vuvuzela. Everybody's got one (Sister's American boy bought two!) and they're all blowing 'em. :D

Noooooo Chris, don't do it! (I think I wouldn't object to it that much if it weren't called turducken. Just. No. I cannot even.)

The wonder and terror of the internet is that it's never just you!

because yamamoto deserved this icon. thelovemafia June 30 2010, 15:53:05 UTC
2. KHR: It was impressive when Yamamoto ran into that wall. On reading it, I thought that I should be laughing but that it was kind of too cool to laugh at. He knocked himself out for like three hours, if that attack had gone through he would've nailed the fight. (I figure in the end, Yamamoto's still going to kill himself, one way or the other.)
I loved it. I laughed at it openly, but privately acknowledged the power of his GREAT FORCE. Also it spawned Wall/Yamamoto, which is an awesome thing.

re. Yamamoto going to kill himself, do you mean:
1. With the absence of an actual intention to kill himself, he will do something so heroic/stupid/overwhelmingly powerful that he will destroy himself;
2. He will consciously Decide to Die the way he did in early!manga (swan-dive off Namimori!); or
3. Either way, he'll get it done.

8. KHR: I LOVE that Tsuna doesn't react to killing Byakuran and basically no one has any reaction to the Millefiore arc. It's terrible storytelling - you'd have to do rocket-powered backflips to make that ( ... )

And that icon will never stop being funny. demoerin July 3 2010, 06:08:32 UTC

I'm not alone! \o/ It is admittedly slapstick, but my foremost thought was damn, that kid was not holding back any power.

re. Yamamoto going to kill himself: I'm leaning towards "With the absence of an actual intention to kill himself, he will do something heroic/stupid/overwhelmingly powerful", but I could see him killing himself intentionally after all - especially if there's a heroic motivation to it, as well. Or at least, acknowledging that he will die if he helps someone, and doing it anyway.

And yes, technically Yamamoto should spill about the Arcobaleno, and I would like Shoichi/Spanner/even Byakuran back, and definitely Fran! But NO MORE FUTURE ARC EVER just feels so good that I can wait happily for the Important Plot Points, and willfully ignore the emotional side of things. XD The Inheritance Arc is spooning on the drama enough as distraction in any case!

*cracks up* That graph is excellent. Hey, you can hear increases after goals, if you really try! But Sister-from-Johannesburg, where the biggest South Africa-centric soccer culture is, says that there are sort of vuvuzela theme songs for the different clubs. They've been in use for ages, and people have "tunes" that they play for their themes - so there has been some refinement in their use. *g*

Those types of character do seem to be the normal ones in their canons, often. And I love that, but it's so annoying that there's this feeling that they're not as valued as the other characters in canon, and makes me feel like I'm failign feminism.

There are constantly reports of sports administrators preemptively banning them in other sports, so I don't think you have to worry the vuvuzelas will win. (Even though I love them, I find it rather horrifying that someone actually had to *say* that they're not allowed at Wimbledon. It was probably just the organisers being cautious, but a vuvuzela is probably the exact opposite of the Wimbledon spirit. XD)

Yeah, it feels like characters who are more normal because they don't excel at the Cool Thing the show is about aren't as valued
Yes, exactly! And then it's easy to like them *because* they're not as extra-special as the rest.
