Suddenly I had a post about illustrations. Loosely speaking

Mar 14, 2010 20:44

storybookland posts scans from illustrated books, generally beautiful or cute or humorous - occasionally sad and terrifying?? I've seen this style of illustration a lot, but it really is creepy if you look at it realistically! And then there's the "We Like Kindergarten" cover, which is on a whole other level. You can't give that book to kids! Baby girl makes me ( Read more... )

that ain't right, recs, that's wrong

That style of art scares me so badly. I-I've always hated those stupid dolls too...

Also, honestly, I didn't think Logan Wayne looked that ugly.
THAT JOKER SABERTOOTH THING MAKES ME WANT TO CRY, THOUGH. You can have fans write the new canon as long as they understand what line not to cross! Look at Batman Begins & The Dark Knight?
...was that Hulk/Wonder Woman?

It never used to scare me ... then that post pointed out how freaking weird they look and now I get chills!

Naw dude, we'll have to respectfully disagree there; I think the OP had an excellent point with the line that The Claw could've killed people purely by being fugly at them. (That mask!) The new Batman movies were amazing, though.

...was that Hulk/Wonder Woman?
Probably; I thought at first it was She-Hulk/Wonder Woman, but Hulk is much more high profile than the female version, so it's probably meant to be him.

the unholy lovechild of Wolverine and Batman.
... I found this, and the link you linked, UTTERLY FASCINATING. I AM SO SORRY. I will let Veser express my feelings on the way I feel about feeling like this.

... FASCINATING I AM NOT GONNA LIEEE :(((

BUT IT'S HIDEOUS, CHRIS, SO HIDEOUS

Veser has the appropriate response here. Also, any mashup of Wolverine and Batman means a concentration of manpain so profound that The Claw would eventually collapse into a small black hole and make a sinkhole of half of North America. Did you see that artwork of feral power in his loft?!

...Actually, now it does become fascinating. So much manpain would be unintentionally hilarious.

... I - I just - I would genuinely read this to find out how the story went. As far as hideous goes, I have seen worse, and also I think it is because I focus on the text, the art is largely incidental to the bigger story (I know, so heretical, yes?). I'd read a novel of this really. Heeey the post summarised it as:
crackilicious mash-up of two comic book continuities into one glorious messI VOTE FOR ONE GLORIOUS MESS ( ... )

(I might like the blank icon even more than the one with the "heroes" line.)

You're about to be a was!
See, I refused to read the dialogue, and now I'm dying in my soul. You like doing that, don't you.

But the feral artwork was great, I can't lie (probably he made his money off those and ... techno-wizardry and sport sponsorships, given his multi-talented status), and the Robin/Jubilee mash-up sidekick looks cute. It doesn't look like there's much more of these stories, though; I get the impression the mash-ups are all one-shots. Sorry for only whetting your monstrous appetite!

Haven't I called you Chris before?? Now I feel like I've taken liberties! Thank you for the carry-on. And I don't have other online names to go by, really, but when asked to make something up (people seem to like doing it at ficathons and such) I pick Ed. Short & sweet, and at one point a bunch of my favourite characters were called Ed(d).

They're the kind of pictures I've seen around in lots of places - on biscuit jars, in adverts, in storybooks. I think it's supposed to be 'generically cute', until the day you look again, tilt your head, and go O_O!
