I finally started watching the A&E miniseries of The Scarlet Pimpernel. So far I've only finished the first tape. Hmm, it was an okay movie. My main problem with the series - and with most remakes/updates - is that it was trying too hard to ignore the source material; adaptations that mock the creator and premise of the story being brought back to the screen defy all logic - why bother with an established concept, if it's so embarrassing in its original form, rather than just thinking up a new idea? TSP1999 was fine as an eighteenth century spy adventure - although the episodes were a tad too long and dragged as a result - but it wasn't Orczy's Pimpernel.

Wait - (Kidnapped King ... Eldorado ... A Good Name ...) - was it? I remember that the 'secret daughter' device was used once or twice, though.
