[Backdated to early in the afternoon, ideally before some of her housemates really get hit. The journal gives a crooked view of a carpet covered in sheets with pumpkins scattered on top, some already cut in with very realistic faces (and designs of scars, black-eyes, and droplets of blood, someone managed to find some holiday spirit).]Hmmhmhm, ( Read more... )

sanity & dignity holder, yay for backdating, demon apathy makes everything easier, demon mothers need their rest, a spot of luck, there is no zombie husband on my lawn

[Do you like it, Patchy? You'll see it sporting a wide blood smeared grin, a sharp nose, and one eye smaller than the other, black and wrinkled. The whole expression itself has a very you should have seen the other guy feel to it.

Mom's just busying herself with cleaning out a new one.]

[Mom will look up.]

...they don't have pumpkin carving where you come from?

[...Well, here's a sight. All these pumpkins, carved painstakingly. And dementedly. He knows what this means.]

Who let you near the carving knives, Mom?

[A deep chuckle, bordering close to a cackle.]

I should be asking whose chloroform wore off after they slapped that outfit on you.

Very funny. Not like I chose to wear this thing.

[One of these shadows creeping around is not like the others.

In fact, it has glowing eyes, which kind of give it away.

Speaking of which, they're looking at you. And...the pumpkins. You may or may not feel a prickle of "something is staring at me" at some point.]

[Mom is all over knowing when she's being watched and her ears will give off a twitch eventually. She'll glance up but not seeing anything in her immediate sight go back to carving.

Hm.]

[The lack of any hostile movement entices Flandre a little closer.

...and she is more than a little curious about those ears.]

[Those ears are rather big and will give off another twitch when the staring continues. Mom will leave her nervous twitch to be for now, almost done with the piece of pumpkin she's cutting out.]

[She got carried away, a-ahaha. There's a good group of them scattered around the living room, fairly small to medium size. Remilia will get an amused look from Mama A, whose just cutting into the top of a new pumpkin to clean it out.]

Look all you want, I'm not setting them outside until Halloween.

[Old family tradition from home and all that.]

Why wait until then?

[She continues her cleaning process as she speaks.]

There are all sorts of ghosts who inhabit the Netherworld but on Halloween especially, there's a particular group of ghosts that only appear. Ancient, even to other ghosts, much like when humans grow old many of their senses are dulled and weakened. Their eyesight especially is bad, so they rely on the light of the pumpkins to guide them around the village.

Demons are lazy by nature and most in Holt tend to light their pumpkins up once and let them stay extinguished when the flame dies. By waiting until Halloween, it's the best way for the village to come together and provide enough light.

Batches like mine are pretty much the norm.

[Koakuma wanders on over, nearly tripping over one, but managing to catch herself before she falls. Mom might consider adding another bruise there.

And unlike Patchouli going B| at the pumpkins over there, she figures it's better to try to find some humor in this week given all of the hallucinations-which for some reason or another she hasn't yet experienced any for herself-and generally-bad things that have been happening all around the village.]

[...noted.

Mom herself has been in the same boat and is apologetically enjoying herself.]

Nice to see someone else with a sense of humor.
