[Backdated to early in the afternoon, ideally before some of her housemates really get hit. The journal gives a crooked view of a carpet covered in sheets with pumpkins scattered on top, some already cut in with very realistic faces (and designs of scars, black-eyes, and droplets of blood, someone managed to find some holiday spirit).]Hmmhmhm, ( Read more... )

sanity & dignity holder, yay for backdating, demon apathy makes everything easier, demon mothers need their rest, a spot of luck, there is no zombie husband on my lawn

[She got carried away, a-ahaha. There's a good group of them scattered around the living room, fairly small to medium size. Remilia will get an amused look from Mama A, whose just cutting into the top of a new pumpkin to clean it out.]

Look all you want, I'm not setting them outside until Halloween.

[Old family tradition from home and all that.]

Why wait until then?

[She continues her cleaning process as she speaks.]

There are all sorts of ghosts who inhabit the Netherworld but on Halloween especially, there's a particular group of ghosts that only appear. Ancient, even to other ghosts, much like when humans grow old many of their senses are dulled and weakened. Their eyesight especially is bad, so they rely on the light of the pumpkins to guide them around the village.

Demons are lazy by nature and most in Holt tend to light their pumpkins up once and let them stay extinguished when the flame dies. By waiting until Halloween, it's the best way for the village to come together and provide enough light.

Batches like mine are pretty much the norm.

That's a really interesting story! But-

[reaching out to touch one]

-is that real blood?

No, no, it's just paint.

I wouldn't waste real blood on this.

...that's a shame. I was hoping I could eat it too.

[Pffft.]

I don't keep much human blood in the first place, most of it's from monsters that reside in the Netherworld. Probably wouldn't be as tasty.

Blood from monsters is pretty inedible. Still, you should keep human blood around since it's what my sister and I use to remain alive.

[Wiping her hands off a hand towel, hello raw pumpkin smell.]

You're big girls, you made sure to bring the supply unit you kept back at the apartments, right.

I would hardly forget something like that. Only an idiot would do such a thing.

It's good to know you're not.

[She's always had a tendency to play like this when she's in good spirits.]

Exactly.

What are you going to do with all the guts of the pumpkin?

Don't know yet.

Normally I'd have my kids pick out the seeds for me at least but, ohoh, I'm flying solo this year so I didn't bother as I cleaned them out.

Can I give it a try? I've never done it before.

There's nothing to it.

[Gesturing towards the bucket by her side.]

Scoop out some of the pulp, pick out the seeds, and leave them in a pile. These insides aren't any good but the seeds can be used for a number of things.

[Not all that exciting but if she wants to, Mama won't argue.]
