'Tis the Season

I've recently re-discovered that I like to cook, which is a good thing, since I've been doing a lot of it in the past couple of days. Yesterday, we had a small Chanukah dinner party, with brisket and latkes (they kind of fell apart, but they tasted good--next time, I'm grating them by hand) and a swiss chard recipe Ellen found on-line that was ( Read more... )

That Orange Smoosh sounds lovely. The Butter King would probably still put butter in it, but as you said, it really isn't necessary.
I just got a food mill. Putting something like your Orange Smoosh through that would get a lovely texture.

Good idea. I'll try that. I used to have an old Foley Food Mill (tm), which got lost in the move. So I bought a fancy new one, with interchangeable discs, and you know what? It's not the same.

South America, apparently, is where the quinoa has been all your lives. In October I had it as a hot breakfast cereal, with soy milk and agave sweetener (yes, the cafe was a bit precious) and it was really good.

But isn't it strange how we get new foods now? Globalization of the food supply, I suppose. I think I was probably 25 before I tasted a mango and now 15 years later I can find them in the supermarket year round (in Pennsylvania).

Huh. Breakfast quinoa. Interesting.

Yes on the mangos. We can buy them from the fruit cart on the corner for a buck a throw, any time of the year. Green, of course, but they're still good.

The Orange Smoosh sounds really, really good. Would you be kind enough to post the swiss chard recipe Ellen found (or the URL for it), since swiss chard is one of my favorite vegetables?

I love quinoa, but I'm quite embarrassed by how long I pronounced it as "key-no-ya"
