Essays on Scott Westerfeld's Uglies Series

As some of you may know, I'm not a writer of non-fiction. I did my time in the fields of Academe, and mostly, it gave me blisters. When I left those fields for the wild expanses of Fiction (speculative or otherwise), I swore I'd never write an essay again.

Logic tends to do strange things when I take hold of it.

A character in one of Robertson Davies' books says something like "Logic is like cricket. All well and good until someone changes the game."

I cannot find who says this.

Oh, I love Robertson Davies. I don't recognize the quotation, but I applaud the sentiment.

It sounds like something Dunstan Ramsey would have said to one of his students. I was thinking The Manticore, but no luck. On reflection, it may have been in one of Davies' lectures, though my first instinct is to put it with a professorial character.

Woah, cool! Must read EXTRAS first, but I would love to see other peoples' critical takes on the series.

Also, Jenny, is that a *cat* in your arms?!

Yes - that's Felix, my Ragdoll. If you go into my LJ and go back a few entries, you'll find some shamelessly self-indulgent photos of him. He's furry, rather than huge - he looks about half that size in summer.

I've been meaning to read the Westerfield series for ages, but I keep finding the later books at the library and not the first one. That being said, consider it added to my Post-Dissertation Book Binge for this summer. :)
