Death in the Cellar

Thanatos' shadow arrived back at the brownstone just before Thanatos' corporeal image had. His shadow was always either slightly ahead or behind him. It was even more of peculiarity that it was seen at all in this dimly lit space. The shadow circled the room, pacing as if it was worried, disappearing into the darkened parts of the room and ( Read more... )

With Sigyn in tow, Ruina knocked on the door.

"Oh! Right!"
And Ruina stopped fanning Sigyn's....... riiiiiiight.

Traipsing through the room, Ruina sank into the prooffered chair.

"A Long Island Iced Tea! No! Death by Cocaine! NO! No! Red wine? ...noo..."

She wrinkled her nose, then looked over to Sigyn.

"Water, for now!"

Curling her feet under her, she beamed at Thanatos. "It's good to meet you! I'm so glad we came while you were here!"

"That is kind of you to offer Sigyn, but you are a guest in this house. I'll serve you while you are here. It is my way."

Unimpressed yet stunned Death, watched Ruina call out several beverages that he was for certain she probably wasn't allowed for her age before she settled on water, which turned his lips into a smile.

Silly child.

"It is good to meet the niece of Nephthys and your friend."

The glasses started filling themselves from the bottom up with water, although it wasn't for certain just from where the water came. And then the tray floated from the bar and sat itself down on the rounded table in reach of all three.

Her eyes widened at the water filling in the glasses, at the floating tray, and then at Thanatos.

"I know we can all do that, but that's awesome! I've not actually ever seen anyone do that before!"

And then she grinned. "You know my aunt? How did you meet her? Do you know Daddy, too? Or Mum?"

Ruina rhymed off some very strange names. Those were drinks?! They were very unusual ones, and Sigyn had never heard anything like them before.

Were they native to Greece?

Smiling at Thanatos she said "Thankyou. It is very kind of you to serve us"

And indeed it was, though it made her feel a little awkward, to be doing nothing but sitting whilst someone else waited on her. She was so used to helping, it felt almost uncomfortable to be denied it, even though Death's reasons were out of purely good hosting and manners.

When the water had been set down, she waited for Thanatos and Ruina to pick up their glasses before taking hers, then had a dainty sip as the other two gods discussed Ruina's family...or what appeared to be Ruina's family. She hoped that she would get to meet them. To have had a child like Ruina, surely they would be just wonderful!

"It is my honor," he bowed his head in Sigyn's direction.

"I am more accustomed to the old ways, Ruina. The world you know is very old and you are very young. It wasn't always like this. It is easy for me to forget that I can pick things up physically...I am not mortal and have great difficulty pretending to be one, although at times? I do."

Holding his own glass in his hand, he absorbed the liquid as was usual for him through the glass, "I met your aunt at the social my mother Nyx hosted. She is lovely your aunt."

"I haven't met your father yet, but I know of him and Tisiphone? She is one of my sisters, which makes me your Uncle."

"Uncle!" she cheerily exclaimed, setting down her drink and rushing to hug him. It didn't last long.

"Woo, you're really cold! Don't you ever feel cold?"

Sitting back down on her chair, she snagged up her water again.

"Sigyn! This is my UNCLE!" she said proudly.

"My aunt/stepmother is Death, and my uncle is Death!" She sighed happily. "I have such an awesome family! I can't wait til you can meet them! And Uncle Than, you should meet Daddy! He's wonderful!"

She quirked her head curiously at Death's drinking habits. It was strange to Ruina, but it was also strange to her. Were all Greeks like this? Were they so removed from mortal behaviour that it seemed almost...alien? Sigyn wondered about that, about the hall of fallen warriors in her homeland, where Odin could regularly be found dining with dead mortals. It was such a great different between the two pantheons, she had to wonder what would a Greek make of that ( ... )

He hadn't expected to be embraced, or he would have tried to pull some heat from the warm atmosphere outside to him. He remarked about the cold, "I hardly notice it Ruina, but I do sometimes ( ... )
