Death in the Cellar

Thanatos' shadow arrived back at the brownstone just before Thanatos' corporeal image had. His shadow was always either slightly ahead or behind him. It was even more of peculiarity that it was seen at all in this dimly lit space. The shadow circled the room, pacing as if it was worried, disappearing into the darkened parts of the room and ( Read more... )

With Sigyn in tow, Ruina knocked on the door.

Thanatos heard a knock on the door. He sent his shadow to get it while he leaned against the glass panel.

The shadow climbed up the wall and disappeared through the floor.

The front door of the brownstone creeked opened and there stood the hooded shadow, it's face completely hollow.

The shadow spoke in Thanatos' soft voice, "Can I help you?"

She had been glad that Ruina had taken up her suggestion, and climbed the steps of the brownstone to the front door. Ruina had knocked, and they had waited until finally the door had opened.

But what stood behind the door? That was a bit of a shock.

Sigyn stepped back in fright, a small gasp escaping from her throat as she did so. Something had answered the door, but what that something was, she didn't know.

From a mouthless hollow came a question, and she felt it only right to answer the thing, whatever it was.

"We....w-we are looking for the home of Thanatos and..Cloey?"

She looked to Ruina, who knew more about these Gods than she did.

"Isn't that right?"

She looked curiously at the shadow. Oh, but this was delightful!

Beaming, she chirped out, "You are wonderful!"

..... and then, as an after thought, "Oh, yes, yes, right! Yes, Sigyn!" And then, to the shadow, "Where do Clotho and Thanatos live?"

She looked back and forth between Sigyn and her newfound Uncle. Not only did he have awesome butlers and really cool tricks, he was smart, too! He knew things about the Greek side of her family!

Ruina hadn't really been taught an awful lot about the Greek side of her family. Nor about the Egyptian part, for that matter. But the Egyptian pieces of her heritage slid easier into place than the Greek pieces. Whenever she could, she always tried to pick up on the relationships to other Greeks that she had.

And sometimes she discovered happy things like Death being her Uncle, as WELL as her Aunt.

She was still grinning over that. It pleased her. Oh yes, it did!

Sigyn listened, sipping her drink and nodding her head on occasions as the Greek Death God spoke. It was interesting that he sought a disguise to go out among mortals. Of course, his wings would look a little strange, but was there a real need to cover up his skin? Would mortals not just accept him as being exceptionally pale? It made her wonder about whether she should disguise herself in front of mortals. After all, some of them did seem to stare at her when she walked among them, men mostly. Could they tell that she wasn't a mortal woman? Maybe they could ( ... )

Ruina was so excited that she seemed to glow to him.

Again the Norse newcomer had more questions, her curiosity was to be expected. He remembered when he'd befriended Azrael and the cultural differences that seemed to hold each of them in awe.

"No." it was firm, but friendly.

"Not many have suffered a real death."

Thanatos smiled, "And no, not all Greek gods are like me. Most are the opposite of me. Anteros for example? He lives among mortals."

Turning his head back toward Ruina, "Why do you seek the unrequited love god? Or rather why does Strife send you to me, for me to take you to him?"

She pulled her knees up to her chest and huddled in Thanatos' chair, a little Greco-Egyptian ball of excitement. Her eyes flicked back and forth between Sigyn and Thanatos, as they spoke. Woo, but Sigyn had good questions! Rinna couldn't have answered them.

And then Thanatos mentioned The Name! The One!

She beamed again.

"Well! I told Anteros I'd find him after that party thing, but... Um. I don't know where he lives! And Strife was wanting me to talk to him on his behalf, because..."

She blushed, squeaked, then covered her cheeks with both her hands and rushed on....

".....because he can't date someone if he's still in love with someone else! And I said I'd go! But I didn't know the way, and he didn't know the way, but he said you did! And... It was only luck -- or maybe Fate? -- that brought us here, because we didn't know how to find you either!"

She smiled.

"And you're my uncle! It makes me so happy!"

The unrequited love god didn't knock. Most of the time he did because it was proper and he considered himself a gentleman, but that was perhaps only because he was trying to impress someone he loved. He didn’t care about being thought of as being a gentleman among those who he didn’t love or wasn’t trying to impress. Did he love death? Not at all, though that was sometimes the end result of his wrath.

As he stood beside Thanatos' juke box looking over the selections he considered that maybe he should have tried to impress Thanatos? He should have knocked. He was here needing a favor from him, now wasn't he? Too late to for regrets he supposed ( ... )
