Please don't give up on AO3!! I was sort of indifferent on the format until I got a smartphone and realized that AO3 automatically converts things to epub, which I can then save to my phone's e-reader. Now AO3 is my favorite thing in the whole wide world.
[As for protocol, a lot of people answer comments but I don't think there's much of an etiquette. The thing is, though, AO3 comments are very likely to come from LJ/Dreamwidth people and YT comments may not, so people who comment at AO3 may be more a part of this particular community? Which means you may want to respond for that reason? But I don't think there's a set understanding at all).
Oh, I won't give up on it, I'll keep posting my fic there as an archive, I imagine. I'm just frustrated today at even the smallest of learning curves. It took me five years to no longer feel like a n00b here on LJ. If those skills aren't portable, I don't have the time to reinvest! /o\
In re: comments. I guess it's that I don't feel much sense of community over there yet (lol, in my whole 17 hours' presence there), which is one of the main reasons I like giving and receiving comments here. And it doesn't help that the very first comment I received was along the lines of, "Nice start. When are you posting the rest of the story?" to something I wrote 3 years ago. :P
I will in all likelihood answer comments there the same. I'm just feeling grouchy about the whole thing today, to be honest.
And thank you for the link. Of course, my first reaction was: bleh, I don't want to have to follow BNFs just to understand what's going on with their site. Which is really ungracious and not at all my true sentiment about AO3. What's with this mood of mine, River? I should probably self-medicate with chocolate. *pulls blankets over head*
That seems to be the prevailing sentiment, likely from the crossover of LJ culture (compared with other archive/content sites on the web). And I have nothing AT ALL bad to say about the common courtesy of thanking people for reading and commenting on my stuff!
Yep, you're right. But a couple of other people linked to the cut-and-paste code provided by some of the AO3 leadership. My flist rocks. :)
I snagged the code for linking my user name from cesperanza's journal. :) As far as comments over there go, I answer them just as I would here--or at least I think I do, it's possible I may have missed some.

I don't think LJ has a simple code that will do the link for you like that.
