Episode review for 2.10 - The Dying of the Light

I'm getting better! This week I'm posting the review for last week's episode a whole two and half hours before this week's episode airs! \o/ I have to admit at this point, I'm calling them 'reviews', but for the last few episodes they've been turning into something more like a form of extended semi-meta. But I'm having a lot of fun writing them, ( Read more... )

Love your recap! You really put some thought into this episode.

On the whole I really enjoyed this ep, but it occurred to me as I was watching that the show can lack subtlety and balance. Jason's descent into darkness was consuming, it buried him, there was nothing left of him in this episode and it was a bit much, I would have preferred to have seen more of a struggle, a more gradual loss of himself.

Similarly with Hercules, I like your reasoning for why he laid the blame for medusas death squarely at Jason's feet but again it felt like too much.

But apart from that, much enjoyed this episode, have rewatched it many times already. Is it wrong that I found murderous Jason super sexy? Yeah, that's probably wrong.

Thanks. These reviews are getting longer and longer, but it is fun to poke and prod the plot and characters like this.

Yes, Jason's turn to the dark side was a bit unsubtle. I suppose they wanted to underline the changes, so they had to go way over the top. But I have to admit, I mostly thought he came across as a moody, sulky brat, rather than an angsty tortured hero. Which is a shame.

I wasn't going to read these episode reviews until I had seen the new ones but BBC America still does have any dates to show the second half of the season. So I might as well at least read what happens since I might not get a chance to see them. It is a bummer because I keep seeing all these lovely gifs of the episodes. (Especially Icarus/Pythagoras and Jason/Diocles ( ... )

Ugh, it is so frustrating that America isn't showing it, and isn't giving any indication of when it might show it. Maybe the dvd might be released soon, once it's finished over here?

I like your theory! That would have been far more interesting from a character development point of view than what they actually *did* with the hand-wave, hand-wave 'magic' explanation.
