I'm bringing polls back

So I did not get get the VT job I mentioned. Apparently the other candidate had more of a "reading background" or something. I was feeling super bummed about this, as rejection after rejection really piles on until it's almost too much to handle ( Read more... )

On the topic of 'Inside Out' - I also saw it this weekend and enjoyed it... well, as much as I could enjoy any movie that had me weeping for about 40% of the whole thing. I went with a friend, and she was very happy I hadn't looked over at her because she "had been totally bawling the whole time".

I don't remember kids movies being that completely sad. I mean, everyone cried when Mufasa died, but then there were musical numbers and a blue-assed baboon and awesome stuff to make you not cry anymore.

Or maybe I'm just sensitive in my old age. :)

The last Pixar movie that managed not to leave any tears in my eyes was uhhh, Monsters Inc.. So I am right there with you! Maybe after Toy Story 3 and the many cries it inspired, they are on a mission to outdo themselves?

And yes, agreed - stuff from the "golden 90s" (or whatever Disney calls it) has much more silly humor to balance things out. It's sad that Aladdin is poor, but hilarious genie! Monkey!!! Etc.!

Hm, you know, I should really check and see if any of my students saw Inside Out and get their impressions. I bet most of them would have perceived it in an entirely different way.

My other drink is fruit juice of various sorts. Also, sorry about the job. *hugs*

Thanks. <3 Today was my kindergarten class's "graduation" ceremony and the many kind cards I got from parents cheered me up a lot. I'm also trying to console myself with the fact that at least I made it to the "final" round. Not sure that's ever happened in NYC public schools, so there's that.

Thanks. I'm trying to make myself feel better by reminding myself that I at least got to the "finals" where I was one of two candidates. So I know it's at least possible to get to that level. Hopefully it will be possible to eventually pass that level, too, though...

I'm really sorry to hear about the job..

I drink (hot) tea all the time. Like 8-10 cups a day: black, green, herbal, redbush, etc.

I actually liked most subjects in school as a kid, but I fondly remember reading and science most (and history, but this wasn't really in your list). I was never a fan of PE, I always felt so clumsy.

Thanks. I feel a bit better about the job thing today, but continuous rejection is tiring at best. :/

That's impressive! So many antioxidants! XD

I was never a fan of PE, I always felt so clumsy.I liked most subjects as a kid, too, which is why I feel alright about teaching primary school now, where you have to spend time on a good variety of them. History is not in the Social Studies curriculum for most Early Childhood grades in NYC. I think it's because we're such a diverse community that it's been decided that the foundation of it all should be begin with getting to know the people in the community and finding out about the languages, religions, customs, etc. of other kids in the class. I understand this, but it would be nice to find time to include both ( ... )

As for gym, our gym is quite simple. Stretching, "duck duck goose", freeze dance, scooters, balance beams, dribbling basketballs...and yet there is one kid in my class who seems to be unable to get through a single gym without falling on the floor at least three times...XD

Hehe, I was that sort of kid I think...

I'm perplexed re: diet soda being on the list, cause while 'unsweetened' = non-calorific, it's also hard ingrained in me that soda = bad generally, sugar or no sugar, so it has no place in the healthy drinks section. Selzter too, stricly speaking, unless it's mineral source water.

I don't remember anything about my early learning days D:

I've technically seen Her but I don't remember there being Christ Pratt so I chose the non-earthling option ~

As someone who is a former diet soda addict (and managed to change from addicted to occasionally drinking one after much effort), I must definitely agree that zero calorie and healthy are not the same, just for the reasons of mysterious chemicals whose long-term effects are uncertain (and are possibly addicting).

Though I never thought of seltzer water as unhealthy. Isn't it just carbonated water? I mean, sure, lots of burping may occur, but other than that, is there really an effect?

Hahah, well, Chris Pratt was a supporting role, not a lead, in Her, Zero Dark Thirty, and Moneyball. In Her, Chris Pratt is the guy in charge of the letter-writing company, which seemed like quite the random casting choice at the time. :D

Yeah, I don't really have the research to back it up.. the mere fact that it's carbonated and that's also trying for the stomach? idek.
