So our trip to Tokyo for Springbreak has been offically cancelled! It was just the wrong time. I don't want to spend my Springbreak waiting and worrying over earthquake and power outages. So I'm just not gonig to do it. Maybe some other time during this semester. I got my money refunded which is a huge relief ( Read more... )

You're going to stay in Japan?

Oh dear, I really wish you'd get out of there with all that's been happening in the last 24 hours and the constantly rising levels of radiation. Things are so dangerous down there and I don't want to see you get harmed:(

German companies have flown out their workers back to Germany because of the radiation and German Lufthansa(airline) isn't flying to Tokio anymore because of the high levels of radiation there. Things seem to look really dire where Fukushima is concerned and I hope it won't end with the worst, but so far it really looks like it:(

It looks like it's best to get out of Japan while you still can! Thinking of you!

*hugs you tight*

Thanks, but unfortunately it is a little more complicated. For one thing my school and country have not offered me payment if I leave, nor have they offered to pay for me to COME BACK so I can finish my studies. It is a really expensive plane ticket, and if I left I probably wouldn't be coming back. Which means I've lost money coming here and not getting my credits for university as well, which also puts me behind.

Also, Osaka is pretty far from Tokyo, so we are in no immediate danger. School is carrying on as usual and I plan to keep doing my work. Though numerous French and German students have already left. (Their countries are paying for their ticket home, but not back.) We'll see what tomorrow holds for us. I have the US embassy on my tabs so I'm checking constantly for news.

Thank you for your concern. /Hugs

Maybe it's because I am German and I've already lived through one nuclear meltdown with Tschernobyl in 1986 which affected Germany quite badly and maybe it's because we in Germany are in general very anti-nuclear energy at the best of times, but if I were you nothing would hold me in Japan for a minute longer than I needed to be ( ... )
