Somewhere in the woods, not far off the path, a slightly draggled and very pale Pyetr is curled under a tree. He does not look entirely as though he got there of his own accord, nor does he look likely to move any time soon. -

Winter's coming on, and the trees are mostly bare by now, dead-looking. Which is an odd thing to cause homesickness, considering, but there it is; and Pyetr is pacing the edge of the terrace with the wind ruffling his fair hair, as melancholy as a young man of his practical temperament can well be. -
