a guide to decaydance land

Oct 21, 2010 17:27

Hello all! And welcome!
New to the whole "land comm" idea? Have no fear! (Rhyme, hah!)
This handy guide (lovingly written by the wonderfulmellamonaranja ♥) will lead you through the magical world of decaydanceland.
So sit back and enjoy, yeah? (Or, if you're already familiar with land comms, ignore this post entirely. Or not. Your choice.)

So by now you've probably applied for a team. If not, now's a wonderful time to do so. :)
Okay! Now that you've applied, chances are you've been accepted into one of our teams. If so, you'll have recieved a reply from either me or Alice that looks something like this:

So, what to do after you've been accepted?
Join your team community by clicking on 'My Invites' under the 'Communities' header.

After you've done this, you will be able to view the team's post and interact with your teammates, which is half the fun. :) Team communities can be used for anything from challenge reminders to team bonding to super secret tagging wars top secret domination plans, so it's rather important that you accept the invitation.

After you've accepted your invitation?
Tracking both decaydanceland and your team's community would be a good idea. This way you can track every new post made to these communities, allowing you to keep up to date with everything that's going down.
How to track: go to the profile page of the community and look for the 'track' button:

Not the best graphics maker/writer?
Don't worry! We're here to participate in challenges and have fun! You don't have to be amazing, just give it your best shot and enjoy yourself, mmmkay? Plus there'll be a smattering of easy/stupid challenges too, so everyone should be able to participate. :)

"So uhhh... I don't have to participate in every challenge, do I?"
Of course not! Naturally, you'll want to do as many as possible to earn your team major points, but nobody will blame you if you sit out on a few. Just participate in as many challenges as you want/are able to and it'll be good. ♥

Alrighty then! Ready to start doing some challenges?
Once you're ready, you can start doing some challenges. The list of open challenges can be found here, and will show all current challenges and their deadlines, so you'll always know what challenges are open for participation. :)
A link to the open challenges, as well as other helpful links can be found on the sidebar, pictured below:

So you're ready to enter your first challenge, but HOW DO YOU POST?! (It's still a mystery. lol wait, no it isn't.)
Unless stated otherwise, all answers/entries should be posted as a comment to the challenge. You can do this by clicking the 'Post a new comment' button:

Once you've clicked on it a text box will pop up, allowing you to type and submit your answers. Usually, entries will be screened, so your entry will only be visible to you and the mod. This is because most challenges are individual challenges, and sharing answers would be cheating (and cheaters never prosper, or so I've heard).

But wait, there's more! Need to "print screen" a puzzle/artwork/anything else, but don't know how?
Every once and a while, it may be necessary to take a screenshot of a puzzle, et cetera. This is simple enough. Every keyboard has a 'print screen' (or 'PrtScn', on my keyboard) button, shown below:

The button can be located in different places depending on the keyboard, but it's usually easy enough to find.
ANYWAYS- just press that button and it takes a "picture" or your screen (otherwise known as a screenshot). Once you've done that, just open up paint/photoshop/whatever and paste (Ctrl+V/Right-Click+Paste) the image on a black canvas. Save the shot and upload it to an image hosting site (photobucket/whatever you prefer), then send a link to it in a comment. :)

Anything else I didn't cover?
If you ever have any questions or just want to bribe shoot the breeze with a mod, you can always Page-A-Mod and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. :) Asking questions at this post is cool, too.

Oh but wait, we're still not done.
Turns out this comm's not for you? Real life getting in the way? You can always choose to drop out of the competition. If so, please tell us over at the Opt-Out Post so that we can keep track of members. It's quite alright if you need to drop out, nobody will think worse of you. And of course, you'll always be welcomed back. ♥♥♥

So hopefully after reading that you're a bit more clued in. I can't stress this enough: ask if you're confused. About anything. We just want you to have fun!
That's that then!
