Poem MEME 2 - Comedy!

Yesterday I posted the very poinant poem "Perhaps" by Vera Brittain, which was dedicated to her fiance who died in the first world war.

I said then, that I didn't remember poetry ...Well, that was a lie!

I do remember one poem, and that is "One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night".

OMGoodness!

This takes me right back to my childhood, chanting that over and over again in the playground hehe!

My old Gran used to tell me o shut up cos "It makes no bloody sense!"

It makes perfect sense - your Gran just didn't understand the finer points of logic!

OMG, I haven't heard that for years! My Dad used to say it every year at the Christmas dinner table, followed by a very cut version of The Boy Stood on the Burning Deck, his feet were covered in blisters. He had no trousers of his own, so he had to wear his sister's!

I have a feeling the words were slightly different in the original!!!

I remember that one! The poem I usually think of if I have to say one from childhood is Hunter Trials - a nonsense poem by John Betjeman I think? It begins...

It's aw'fully bad luck on Diana,
Her ponies have swallowed their bits.
She fished down their throats with a spanner,
and frightened them all into fits...

Don't think DJ would have liked to have met her do you? LOL

Thanks for that reminder - I remember reading that as a kid and laughing ... and have just re-read it (sad to know which joke book it was in!) ... and have just choked ... DJ would not be happy!
