I think the best outcome now is a general election but I am with you on your fears. I hope that it's not as bad as we fear it will be. The trouble is that any attempt in the pitiful debates to raise these issues was shouted down as " project fear". The electorate deserved better!

Thing is people have been slowly drip fed propaganda by the bucket full since the coalition came in, (look at how they masterfully managed to swop the blame for the recession from the bakers to the benefit system) so making the EU to be the source of all their woes was like shooting fish in a barrel, especially it has to be said with it touching on that great British pastime of 'don't trust foreigners'.

Imo it's heartbreaking watching the people on that Guardian video I posted on my lj saying why they voted out, because you know nothing is going to get better from them, in fact it will probably get a lot, lot worse.

And what will the government do when they realise they've been duped, well do what they always do and blame it on welfare and the working poor. And round and round it goes.

I suspect also pensioners will soon join that 'kicking list' as they know the biggest amount of money spent is on the state pensions, and although they've been protected up to now that won't continue after this outcome.

The electorate deserved better media, better information, a proper debate. They got set pieces, soundbites and slogans.

And so much of what people blamed the EU for was , of course, actually the doing of successive UK governments.

But we are where we are, let's just hope we can find a way forwards.

But I still support the right of every individual to have voted the way they felt best and will not be tarring everyone who took a different view to me with the same brush.

This is one of the very *many* reasons I adore you Deb. Not just like, adore.

Don't forget that the campaign didn't create the ugliness, it just gave it a voice and legitimised it and I'm sure that the majority of the 52% are as appalled as I am by some of the opinions stated and the actions taken.

Adorable & sage.

So, whichever way you voted, as long as you can say " not in my name" to racism, antisemitism, homophobia, Islamophobia, transpHobia, disabilism anti migrant sentiment, in fact all hate speech, othering and violence, I still count you as a friend and ally and I hope that those here who voted differently to me can still accept that I hold my views sincerely and that holding an opposing view does not imply judgement of those who hold other views.
Super sage, super adorable ( ... )

And what I will be doing is trying to come to terms with the decision and move forward in the hope that some good may come of it.

Well said :) I'm certainly worring about the future now as much as anyone, but I can't help feeling like it's not helping anything when so many people seem to actually want to lash out at "leave" voters and only dwell on the worst possible outcome, insisting that we're all doomed now

We have to try to rebuild and go forwards.

There isn't an option.
