Ahh... you really don't know how much this makes me happy, and will help me. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I love thorough reviews.
Smaller and sharper brush settings? I mostly use mouse instead of a pen tablet, so, the way its used and applied is a bit different, is it?
I'll definitely take note of this. But, I'm slightly confused on the different textures part (obviously, this is where my art fails, as I'm not technical in this verse).
You can still achieve similar effects with a mouse. The only difference is that pen tablets' pressure sensitiveness can give you difference in width of stroke in one go, but you can achieve the same result by using rubber to go the sides/ends of the brushstroke.
I think the problem lies in the brush being too soft-edged and size being too big.
The lineart is very expressive, and I love how one can see the sketchiness of the lines- it inhences the feel of movement.
With the fabric texture. A typical uniform of that era would be somewhat rough to touch and matt in appearance- that is to say that the fabric absorbs light and thus won't reflect light well, or have a high contrast area like what you have beneath the belt. Taking in consideration of duribility it might be somewhat stiff too, and to express this I'd also go for using shadows to show the rigidity of the fabric.
This is my opinion, which may differ from a_liger's, and like hers, feel free to disregard what I say.
Thank you! Though, I sometimes I'm told that having sketchiness is a sign of indecisiveness in just not... sticking with one line.
Ah... I'm starting to get a clearer picture of what you and a_liger's are saying, at least on this particular piece of fabric. I'll try it the next time I have something like this, or go back to it, and see how it goes.
Why would I disregard it? I think it's very helpful, and I'm always willing to improve in a lot of areas, not just in art, but, in this case, yes. Again, thank you very much. I hope to get more reviews like this whenever I put more art out (though, the actual sketches are under f-lock, since I mostly put the lineart out first to see how it feels to some of my friends first before I do anything else with it).
