Turns out there's a blood test for ovarian cancer. Only reason it's not part of women's annual bloodwork is because it's expensive. My cancer was Dx first by a CT scan because we just didn't know why I was bloated, but it was the CA-125 blood test the next day that confirmed it was cancer. Ironically my insurance company initially denied coverage for the CT scan, but the denial didn't come until after the test was run, and given that it identified 14lb of tumor and associated stuff they backpedaled mighty fast.
I hate to be the contrarian voice here, but a lot of the "chronic Lyme" cranks are just that -- cranks. A lot of people who claim they have chronic Lyme infection have never actually had a positive lab test for Lyme at all, and there is basically an entire industry (not unlike the DAN! doctor network) of dubious doctors dedicated to catering to these folks, who probably -- if they actually have anything at all -- have some kind of virally- or bacterially-triggered arthritis or something, which is a nasty piece of work to treat and not always easy to find the cause of, either. The "chronic Lyme" industry as it stands is right up there with the Morgellons people, mostly.
I'm sorry for what your friend is going through, but please be skeptical of a lot of the folks on the so-called "other side," because they are full of crap.
Please use your eyes. The friend in question WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A POSITIVE. If you're going to sit and scoff and call it contrarian, at least read the damned post first.
Also, if I recall correctly, you have a chronic condition yourself I dont recall what it is.
Has anyone denied its existence recently? Anyone suggest that "IF she has anything at ALL"?
Seriously, with that particular attitude, I don't think we much to discuss. Would you care to tell me that anyone with MS is a crank, as well? Or that we don't have anything wrong with us?
Like I said. Flaming arrogance on both sides of the debate. One side frothing at the mouth and the other going "nothing happening here, la la la."

But what would be analogous here would be if they confirmed you had a 14-pound tumor and then denied that cancer existed.
