This is an awesome story about you and your friend - I actually laughed out loud at a few points because it reminded me so much of me and my Sweet Valley obsession - though I didn't have a friend that was as into it as I was. I collected the books faithfully from the time I was 9 until my mid-twenties (when SVU started coming out). Then the obsession started to fade and all my books either got destroyed or lost throughout a couple of moves.
Now my Sweet Valley obsession is fueled again and I too am working on collecting as many of the original SVH and SVU books as I can find. (Not interested in the kids, jr. high, etc. series, and I may start on Senior Year once I finish the originals.)
I, too, shared fandom obsessions with a best friend named Amanda. We started "roleplaying" when we decided we were too old for "playing pretend," but really it was the same thing. (No board game to revolve it around, but sometimes we incorporated random pieces from games.) And I read me a lotta Christopher Pike.
I mean, damn, Michelle is even my mom's name, for pity's sake!
But, all goofiness aside, this is really cute and nostalgic. I very much enjoyed reading it. And, as a bonus, I now understand where the SV/Gundam crossover came from - I did a major double-take when I saw it on your site!
Wow. I started this as a satire to go through our friendship that was really based on Sweet Valley but it wound up kind of serious in the end. It’s kind of pathetic how much of our lives revolved around those books and our own world created upon the characters featured in the board game, but that’s okay. We stayed out of trouble. We had fun. And right now we’re both doing pretty good.
I think you and Amanda are pretty awesome people. I hope you don't mind if I add this to my Memories? It's really nice.
I think we should become friends! We both heart Sweet Valley and V.C. Andrews. We should like, rp it sometime! Sooo much fun! I'd even relinquish Margo heh.
