If that's really how James behaves in the play, then he's more like his namesake than he realizes.

I must confess I don't know. I'm going off of what I think he's likely to be like based on knowledge of earlier installments of the canon.

It pretty much is, though a lot of it's implied more than stated because James is only onstage in a handful of scenes. But in pretty much every scene he's in, he's mocking Albus for being in Slytherin.

James Jr. doesn't matter much in the play. It's Rose Weasley who acts the prejudiced Gryffindor poster girl.

Albus: [Raises hand] Professor, Professor! Did you by any chance write a play about a Japanese emperor when you were younger?

Slughorn: No, the play was about 100% English people dressed up in kimonos telling each other they were Japanese, but that seems to have gotten lost in translation somewhere. Twenty-first century people have no sense of humor. After all, look at the idiotic play we’re in now. It’s enough to give theatre a bad name. Thank God it’s not a opera.
