It did do the job in a roundabout way, in the end, but how tragic that Harry didn't get that inheritance after all.

Oh, you're right! Do you know I completely missed that aspect? Right under my nose... XD
But yes, I think Severus - besides wanting to keep the wretched wandering boy safe - would want deep down to be able to give him something of her. That's what clued me in. I couldn't quite see why Severus would be so motivated to figure out flight just for himself, not strongly enough to - this is gonna come up in the Voldemort part - well, let's say find the faith in himself that he needed for it. A selfish motivation I don't think would have worked for him, not at this point ( ... )

And Harry has plenty of inheritance from his father, right? Money, broom skills, now his father's friends, looks... It's only right that he get something more of Lily's than her eyes! He'll make it happen. Somehow.

Fun. Will we get to delight in the results here? Please?
I've been tossing around some fic ideas myself - explaining how Severus taught Voldie to fly really might work better in fic form, I suspect, but how much to include?... argh.
