Indestructible - An Addendum on Flight

Aug 24, 2015 13:36

I've been writing up some of my thoughts on Voldemort and Severus, and it's made me realize how central flight is. Both to Severus' relationship to the Dark Lord, and to his character and arc in general. It all unfolded suddenly in my mind last night and became clear ( Read more... )

I think that works! Severus would want Harry to be able to stop himself from falling, as he so evidently does all too often. (Nothing metaphorical there, nope, nothing to see....) And of course it would be only right that Lily's son have something meaningful passed down from her.

It did do the job in a roundabout way, in the end, but how tragic that Harry didn't get that inheritance after all.

Oh, you're right! Do you know I completely missed that aspect? Right under my nose... XD

But yes, I think Severus - besides wanting to keep the wretched wandering boy safe - would want deep down to be able to give him something of her. That's what clued me in. I couldn't quite see why Severus would be so motivated to figure out flight just for himself, not strongly enough to - this is gonna come up in the Voldemort part - well, let's say find the faith in himself that he needed for it. A selfish motivation I don't think would have worked for him, not at this point ( ... )

Dumbledore slowed Harry's fall in PoA. I forget, was Severus at that game? The visual of Harry falling slowly might have brought the memory to mind, if he hadn't thought of it already.

And Harry has plenty of inheritance from his father, right? Money, broom skills, now his father's friends, looks... It's only right that he get something more of Lily's than her eyes! He'll make it happen. Somehow.

I don't think we get told one way or the other if he's there. But if Harry's playing, probably he's watching to be safe.

Good catch on PoA - yes, that might very well have done the trick.

Also, between you and Terri and sweettalkeress with all the interesting commentary lately inspiring me, I've actually committed fic for the first in forever. (Also I just saw a pig fly past my window.) Very diabolical of you ;-)

Oh yay! My evil plan is working! Mwahahaha! ;)

Fun. Will we get to delight in the results here? Please?

I've been tossing around some fic ideas myself - explaining how Severus taught Voldie to fly really might work better in fic form, I suspect, but how much to include?... argh.
