This is what I'm wondering about too. It was so unnecessary for them to end in Rukia's home. I don't know why they weren't in Ichigo's home. I understand the decision for them to change the fact that he completely loses his powers so they can throw filler in there because they're so close to the manga. But eh, I am so disappointed in the anime :(

Yeah... They could have just stopped for a week or two before animating it. Fans don't mind if something worthy of closing a story, which now most fans feel robbed.
