Shinji is gone. He has been missing three days while in the pursuit of a dangerous criminal. Urick. I know you bear him no love, but Kazuhiko Amamiya is going to be a victim if he dies. I've waited the length of time that Shinji set. Now time has run out.
I cannot fight. The Darkness will destroy me. But you can. I know that you are capable of it. So, Urick... will you go look for him for me?
...yes. There are only two people whose deaths would anger me this much as to stain my hands with blood. It is true that most of the appearance I display to people is a mask. Congratulations on breaking through it.
Yet still... I wonder what you plan to do with that knowledge.
[A slight pause.]
You were going to call me a fool or something, weren't you?
If you're a fool, I'm a far bigger one. Don't worry, I'm not planning to use it against you or anything like that. But it's nice to understand what you're working with, don't you think?
[Except he doesn't understand, not really. He's not aware of Kimihiko's manipulative side. Just that he's another who hides behind a mask.]
There are more people than just Shinji who can accept others for who they are, believe it or not.
Thank you. [Misreading them greatly. If he could use this man, not to kill but just to keep himself from dying... then he could continue with the plan alone. Take down SERO in revenge for Shinji. And then-
°C is gone Shinji is gone Shimazu is gone-to keep going on his own? He could do it, he's sure of it, but what meaning will ending the world have without °C and Shinji there to see it? Despite that, he knows he'll keep going. He knows he'll keep striving towards it. It's been so great a desire for too long. Yet somehow, the thought of it is painful and frightening. Being without °C would have been hell without Shinji. Being without them both? Truly alone? He wonders if his mind will be able to handle it, doubting himself for the first time, and shakes it off. No. His mind is brilliant. If it had not been for Shimazu he would have succeeded in the outside world
( ... )
[...Gnomes? Ah, Yaha. He must have left them behind when he was taken into Afterglow, of course.]
I understand. It's difficult, being alone. Especially after losing a friend.
[A pause, and he... laughs. It's an attempt to lighten the mood, though it probably seems inappropriate.]
Listen to us, talking as though he's already dead. Chances are he's holed up somewhere waiting the Darkness out. He's a reckless one, Shinji, but he's not stupid.
He told me that if he was not back in three days to give up on him.
[The sound of typing is probably noticeable in the background. It's the only sound. There's not even his usual music or the sounds of neighbours. Simply emptiness.]
And to treat it as a permanent death. He would have contacted me if he were able. That leads me to conclude he's either injured or dead - or captured, perhaps. I'm going to hack the security cameras I can find. Try to pin down where he might have hidden.
[The next moment, sound explodes before lowering in volume. Static. The cries and howls of the lost in the night. The sound of fire. Sounds flickering back and forth between one another, clicking over between footage over and over.]
If he was hunting, it will probably be one of the less populated areas. His orders were to retrieve the enemy alive. It would be better to drive them somewhere he would not be interfered with. On top of that, it would spoil his entertainment if anyone intervened. Unfortunately, CCTV footage of those areas is sorely limited. Even the police do not haunt most of them and as a result, there is less security. The cameras are minimal in that area and mostly private.
It can't be helped. I can teach you how to hotwire a car or motorcycle if you need to move faster.
[He changes focus to eight and eleven.]
...there's not many here. Looks like the only movement I'm picking up is from the monsters. If I were closer, I'd be able to find out if there were more that weren't working and see through them, but...

[...they are all just tools. And I have more to hide than my true thoughts.]
-well. It isn't important. Why do you say you are a bigger fool?

That's right. Even when we talked about things that must make you uncomfortable you kept your reactions hidden behind the smile in your voice.

I hope you won't think any less of me for it.

[Or perhaps Urick really was that nice all along.]
Urick. If Shinji is dead, I'm going to call on you.
[And he'll find where you live without needing to ask...]

[Yeah, misreading your intentions there, Kimi.]

Ah... Well, if it narrows down the area I have to search, it'll certainly be helpful.
[Computers? Security cameras? Hacking? Urick doesn't have a clue about that kind of thing.]

Less populated... Sector eight or eleven, then. I'm close to the border of eleven already. [On patrol in Sector 10, as usual.]
Even so, that's a lot of ground to cover. Ahh, this would be far easier if I had wings.
[Sometimes he missed that bad-tempered old dragon of Nowe's.]

[That would be suicide.]
