Cower. Fear. Eternity.
She wakes to a chill in the air, the feeling of skin against stone. She clutches the threadbare blanket to herself, and tries to stand. She staggers, falls against the wall. Supports herself on the ice-cold stone as she struggles to remain upright. No windows, only one, closed, door, but she won’t let him see her weak, know that he’s won.
Beaten. Lost. No way out.
Her stomach protests at the lack of sustenance, she shivers uncontrollably. She scratches at the indents the bed of straw has left on her skin, brings old white scars to the surface, and draws blood with her uncut, broken nails. She arranges the remnants of her gown so her bruises are covered, and her modesty - what little he has left her with - preserved. She holds herself upright with all the grace and elegance he values, and the pride he despises, and waits for the familiar sound of a key in the lock.
Stubborn. Unbroken.
Revenge.
