J's made an effort today to look smart and snazzy and all that jazz. Though it just doesn't quite compare to his friend who pretty much radiates sophistication. It doesn't matter all that much to J who knows he's more fun has his hands all over Liam. Liam accepts the manhandling, although he'll make an effort to keep things decent. For the children

Will's smile is quiet but sincere -- he's often wondered if he did the right thing, helping J. Seeing him happy, however -- if the cause is somewhat bemusing -- is a good feeling.

"Congratulations, I suppose," he says briskly. "And I don't do sappy or romantic, for which I am extremely grateful."

"Live at school? Man, that must suck."

Will shrugs. "One of my best friends is there," he explains. "And my brother. So it's not all bad, and it's close enough that we can go home any weekend, not just the long ones."

"At least you don't have to worry about parents being around to tell you off or whatever, I guess."

[w0tcha]

Will makes a face. "Actually, I'd say the Masters are worse than my parents. Father doesn't go around saying how much he misses corporal punishment, like some of ours do." He adds hastily, so that J doesn't get the wrong idea. "I don't get in trouble though. Well, not unless Bran does."

"Ugh, I was never a fan of school. Especially if you can get in trouble just by having a sense of humour."

[w0tcha]

"We've only the one Master like that," Will says ruefully. "But yes, he's the reason most people drop Latin in sixth."

"Latin? Wait, that's... that's like the funny writing from Earth, isn't it? I'd drop that too. Don't think anyone uses it."

[w0tcha]

"It's not funny so much as old," Will replied bemused. "And it's good if you want to do history or science -- or languages I suppose." He pauses. "Where'd you go to school?"

"And what do you want to do?" J shrugs. "Eyestone College, not that I spent much time there. ... I can't believe I remember the name of that place. Obviously not on Earth."

"I don't know -- yet," Will admits. "It all seems a little irrelevent." His mouth quirks at J's comment. "That was going to be my next question."

"You'll figure it out." He grins. "Not in space either, just to be clear, then. Nice little planet not too much different from Earth."

[w0tcha]

Will shrugs. "I've got University to think about, I suppose. Or there's Dad's shop although I think he's hoping Max will join him there. No great rush in either case." He smiles at J. "Now I'm picturing one of those Victorian terraced houses just floating around in space. Would make popping out to the corner shop for some milk tricky."

"That's a while away anyway. No pressure at all." J laughs even though he comes up blank at the mention of 'Victorian'. Houses are still houses. "Might make things a little trickier, yeah."

Will nods. "So, if we've established where, I suppose the next question is 'when'?"

[sable_mind]

"A... while ago." He scratches the back of his neck and looks at a fascinating point on the floor.
