Summer of Regrets

Jared walked into his hometown coffee shop and got right in line as he was enjoying one last summer at home before he headed away for college in the fall.

“Hey, Jay, the usual?” the girl behind the counter asked.

The young voice brought Jared out of his thoughts for the moment. “Hey, Sal. Yes.”   He reached into his pocket for the money.

“Jared, no charge. Getting ready for college?”

He let out a heavy sigh. “Yeah, first time I’ll be away from home, but boy am I looking forward to it.”

She smiled at him. “We’ll miss you here; But we all wish you luck.” She handed him his coffee.

Jared smiled and turned around to bump right into the guy who was waiting to put his order in. “Oh, god, I’m so sorry.” He quickly turned around to grab a few napkins and started to wipe off the man’s shirt.

“Jared, it’s alright,” the man said.

Jared looked up to see the one person had missed for the past four years; His childhood friend who he only got to see during the holidays when he came home from school. “Jensen…”

“I haven’t changed that much, have I?” he joked.

“No, you look great.” He gave him a quick hug but couldn’t help breathing in the rich scent he had missed so long. “I just didn’t know you were coming home.”

“I didn’t want my folks to tell you. I have the month off before my summer class starts and thought to come see the folks, maybe help someone I know who is heading off to college this year.”

Jared grinned to that. He always knew Jensen had a heart of gold; Would help out anyone but always seemed to know when he needed him the most. “Thanks, I would love all the help I can get.” He turned to ask for a fresh cup of coffee to see two already sitting there for the both of them. He picked them up and handed one to Jensen. “Walk you home?”

Jensen nodded and followed him out of the shop. They both got about a block away before Jared shoved Jensen into an alley. “Jared…”

He just smiled and pushed him up against the brick wall and planted the biggest kiss on his lips. “I missed you so much.”

As their lips touched, his mind flooded with memories of the past. “God, Jared, I love you so much.”

He couldn’t help but smile at that. “My folks won’t be home for hours.” Taking his hand in his own, they walking back to his home.

~A Few Hours Later~

The front door slammed closed. “Jared, sweetie, are you home?” his mother yelled up the stairs.

He woke up to his mother’s voice, pulling his head off his boyfriend’s chest as it slowly moved up and down as he slept next to him. Taking a long stretch, he sat up in bed and grabbed his pants from the foot of the bed. He slipped them on before getting out of the bed. That was ) when he reached down and shook Jensen awake.

His eyes flew open to find his boyfriend with his jeans on. “What’s up?” he asked through a long yawn.

“My mom is home. Better get dressed in case she comes up here.” He grabbed his shirt and tossed him his pants; Heading for the door. “Missed that.” He opened the door. “Mom, I’ll be right down.” Then he turned back to see Jensen fully dressed.

“See you tomorrow?”

Jared nodded as he gave him a long kiss and walked him down the stairs to sneak him out of the house before his mother saw them. He watched him run across the street to his folks’ home.

~A Month of Bliss~

Jared laid on top of Jensen, breathing as their sweat mixed together. “That was wonderful.” He listened to his heartbeat. He felt his arms wrap around him.

“Would you like to go see a movie tomorrow?”

He let out a long sigh. “I kinda like lying here with you?” He could feel the deep chuckle come out of him as his chest vibrated with each snicker.

“Jared, I’ve been home for two weeks, and we haven’t left your room. The only time we’ve been apart is when I have to go home because your folks are home.”

Jared pulled back and looked down at him. He knew he was right, but he was just loving this time with him. He didn’t need to do other things. “I guess.”

Jensen just rolled out from underneath him. “Don’t do me a favor.” He grabbed his jeans and put them on.

“Jensen, I really want to.”

With one quick tug, his shirt was on, and he was fully dressed and ready to leave. “Jared, there are more things about a relationship than just sex.” He stormed out of the bedroom.

Jared pulled the pillow out from underneath his head and tossed it at the door.   Why couldn’t he just be with his boyfriend? He had been supportive by agreeing for them to break up when Jensen went off to school, since it would look bad for an adult to be with a teenager. Even though it was only four lousy years between them.

The first week was rough. Jensen wouldn’t return his calls. He knew he only had a week left until he returned to school. This time he knew he had to make it up to Jensen in a big way. He grabbed his cell and looked up the movie times to see if there were any movies they might like to see. Then he called the only fancy place in town and made a reservation there. Now he just needed to get Jensen there. That was when he thought a dozen roses would work
