I hate and loathe (see, I'm driven to redundancy!) the idea of her returning, if she does so, as deformed and lustridden with a Luke fixation.

Oh, crap - I hadn't even thought of that possibility. I don't know how I missed it. That's probably more likely than my guess. Sadly, I actually liked mine better. *sigh*

Well, you're right that a flare-up would at least be interesting. :P

*amused* Now you've said that, I'm going to have make into some kind of tribute to Luke and Callista's fated love ... but then again you've already married them off in fic, so I guess I can't really faze you. :p

They have yet to learn from any of their own mistakes, so who really knows? :P

I did marry them off! And gave them two kids! Even though Mara wanted to marry Luke! I was very proud of that one. It probably leans heavy into the melodrama, but I was still proud. :P In all seriousness, if Callista is written well, I don't mind her. I still like Mara way better, but Callista herself isn't essentially terrible. The problem is that Hambly and KJA didn't even come close to scratching her surface. I'd trust fanfic authors like you a great deal more. So, yeah - even if it was fated L/C love, I'd read it. ;)

I remember reading that fic (before I knew you, I think?) and being very impressed that you didn't demonise Callista, because up to that point in my lurking ways I'd only every encountered 'Callista is evil', 'Callista is a robot', 'Callista is a darkside zombie', etc. Which was fine, I suppose, but seemed slightly of character with what I'd read. :p

Well, this Mara fan wouldn't be all that worked up provided they don't completely undermine Callista's character or Luke's, but there are plenty of fans whose heads will probably explode if the rumour is accurate. (But it will give them something new to complain about as many are still complaining at every opportunity about the injustice of Mara's death... how many years on? ... so there is that.)

The flare up would be fun, considering that I don't care any more. I liked the old self-sacrificing Callista but I don't know how the profic people would handle it.

She always struck me as a character we were only getting half the story on, given that we never see her at her best. (Being stuck as a disembodied consciousness with a crazy AI for x number of years can do that to a person, I suppose.) It'll be interesting to see what comes out. I don't venture onto the Reseource or Lit boards much, but I imagine there are going to be some mixed reactions to the rumours...
