Freedom, or something like it

I'm so relieved the semester is over, because I thought the final exam would kill me. Four months of foundation psych doesn't easily compress into a week of study. This would teach me to pace my study properly.... except I resolve to do that at the start of ever semester and it lasts about two weeks ( Read more... )

I always had a real problem with Han and Leia's parenting decisions. Hiding them away may be good for their immediate protection, but does nothing for their overall wellbeing. I can totally see how this contributed to the whole Darth Caedus fiasco. It'd be interesting if the future novels address this issue, especially in regards to Han and Leia's raising of Allana. Probably not, though (canon? What canon?).

*slightly hypnotised by Ted!icon*

It's hard not to think that sending the Solo kids off was an easy way for the writers to get them out of the way.

It still rather bugs me that Allana has been lumped with Han and Leia when she has a loving and capable mother on Hapes. But that's the EU for you, I suppose. :p

Psychology is great for ideas. It was during a psychology lecture on attachment theories that the spark for writing hit me again. That's when I wrote "Forbidden Attachments" and kicked started my passion for Star Wars fic.

I'm glad it's not just me with the seemingly oddly-timed muse. :P There's a lot of fodder for thought (and fic potential) even just in the attachment pattern side of things. *ponders*

The best study is the kind that overflows. And thank you! Just have to make time to write -- funny how it's easier when you're procrastinating.

Isn't it bizarre? I'm experiencing the same thing while on break. And congrats on finishing! I imagine that would either be a relief, or be slightly intimidating. Or perhaps both at once. :p

Han and Leia sending their kids off is one of the dumbest things about a bunch of books that are overflowing with dumb. They wouldn't have done that, Luke wouldn't have suggested it (oh, yes - the guy who grew up as an adopted orphan desperate to know about his real parents is totally going to suggest sending his niece and nephew off into exile NOT TO EVEN MENTION THE WHOLE LOGIC FAIL OF ISOLATION AS PROTECTION FOR THEIR MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT), and even if as many people wanted to kidnap the Solo kids as the books made it out to be (which doesn't even make sense), I'm just going to go ahead and guess that the NR's equivalent of Secret Service AND THE NOGHRI could have protected them just fine even if their extremely capable parents and uncle couldn't have. The idiot authors (was this KJA's idea? Sure sounds like him) just didn't know how to write children or parents or even uncles apparently and found it easier to shove them off stage for a few years ( ... )

There are so many stupid things about the Solos' upbringing -- really, Threepio as a nanny? *facepalm* I don't know whose idea it was, though I suspect the first instance of Jacen and Jaina being sent off for their protection was in Dark Empire II, but that was also a retcon for the fact that, whoops, they hadn't existed in DE. :p

I so want to write Mara and Ben! There's a certain other uber!depressing fic that's eating up my writing time at the moment. *sigh* Mara and Ben should bond muchly, I'm thinking. :p
