Most of it was great. I had a problem with the high coincidence of Kirk finding a certain Vulcan on Delta Vega(?) but I thought the characters were well treated and made sense. Dr. McCoy was marvelous!
I adored the entire movie. Kirk was great, Spoke was great, Chekov made me giggle in glee, Sulu - what an action man. McCoy blew my socks off! He was absolutely fabulous.
But Scotty stunk. I have never rated Simon Pegg as an actor and I tried to like him, but his Scottish accent was among the worst I've heard and totally ruined Scotty for me. : (
I was completely unspoiled and thus had not expected the Spock/Uhura, and it threw me too. Mandy pointed out that their personalities actually did have the potential for that sort of compatibility, which I generally agree with, and overall I don't mind it. The whole mentor/former student thing still kind of bothers me, though.
I do wonder if part of the motivation for it being there was to deflect the outpouring of Kirk/Spock slash? In which case, nice try, but I seriously think you underestimate the dedication of slashers.
*giggles* QFT, sadly. The slashers are a determined lot. :P
