Well, Aaron did write it so I would expect it to be better than the other authors lately. He likes Ben as a character so I would think the banter would be well done. However, I agree that they going onto Mara's ship and not mentioning her is not good. I would think everything on that ship would remind them of her.
Going onto the Shadow was a good opportunity to slip in something about Mara, especially when the ship hasn't been mentioned for a while. That it's not there seems a bit odd.
