Accompanying fanwork claims 2013!

Aug 30, 2013 04:14

Hey everyone! We have ten great stories up for claims this year. We're really excited about claims!

Now that the deadline has passed, we're putting the summaries up for artists to peruse. The claims don't actually open until Saturday, and please be aware that there may be a few late additions to this list, but we want the fanworkers to have a chance to think about their claims now.

Important note for authors: please do not tell all of your artist friends what number your story is. The point of a challenge like this is to do blind claims, and while people may recognise your story from snippets you've posted or things you've talked about in the past, please don't give them the exact number of your fic. Additional and unrelated note, if your story is in the wrong category, or is missing, or something else is wrong, PM me ASAP so I can fix it.

This post will be closed to comments until claims open on Saturday. We will post a notice that claims are opening (around 12 noon EST), at which point we will open up the comments and each artist can claim ONE story. Once all the stories have been claimed, or if there are still unclaimed stories by Wednesday, 4 September, we will allow secondary claims.

When requesting your story, please list your top three choices in the order that you want them. Please list the category (Bat-family, Super-family, Young Justice, or Crossovers), the number of the story, and the title (e.g., "Bat-family, #2, myths wrongly interpreted"). The claims will be on a first come, first served basis, and we will do our best to confirm your claim as soon as possible.

Fanworkers, if you are not a member of the comm, please join by filling out the form after you make your claim. If you have any questions, please contact us on our page-a-mod post!

Claims will close on Saturday, 7 September, at 11:59 PM EST. Match-ups will be emailed out after that; it will be up to the author to provide the artist with a copy of their draft at that point. If an author notices that their story has been claimed and confirmed before that point, and wants to send their story to their fanworker before match-ups are sent out, that's fine :)

Bat-family
1. Title: Leaving Gotham
Genre: Action/Friendship/Romance
Fandom/Universe: DCU Comicverse
Characters/Pairings: Cassandra Cain/Stephanie Brown
Warnings: no
Summary: Cassandra Cain, Batgirl, and Stephanie Brown, Robin, are both independently fired by Batman. Rather than seeking to redeem themselves in his eyes, they decide to stick together and find a new city in need of protectors, assuming the identities of Silent and Spoiler.

They go to Hub City, where Cassandra struggles during the normal parts of life, working as a waitress, warehouse worker, hotel maid, and finally in a bakery. Stephanie has the opposite problem, able to keep a job as a waitress, but facing constant difficulties adjusting to being one of two costumed vigilantes in a large city.

In the end, they both manage to thrive, and come together romantically. They also struggle with Hub City's organized crime, establishing a relationship with the police, and eventually even a fight with Scarecrow at the climax.

2, Title: myths wrongly interpreted
Genre: Angst, family relationships, magical elements
Fandom/Universe: Gotham-verse; DCnU/Batman Inc. 8 fix-it fic
Characters/Pairings: Tim Drake, Damian Wayne (gen)
Warnings: major character death (but he gets better), violence
Summary: Tim has lost enough in his life. He isn’t going to lose anything - or anyone - else, not if there’s a chance that he can fix it. It might seem like paranoia, but when Damian falls in the fight against Leviathan, Tim is glad that he has a backup plan, because now he can save his brother.

Spoilers for: Batman Incorporated 8, Teen Titans 18 (and vague Teen Titans happenings to that point); the Death of the Family storyline; vague Demon Knights through 18 to be safe (but you don’t have to be familiar with it at all); Tim Drake’s pre-reboot history

Notes for my fanworker: This is a Batman Inc. 8 fix-it fic, A lot of it takes place in the afterlife, some of which looks like Gotham, and some of which looks like a barren wasteland. There are also scenes in the Batcave. If you're a fanmixer, I have a one-song request for inclusion (the song that the title is taken from). If you're not a fanmixer, no worries on that front! The fic has canon-typical violence and a good deal of angst, but ends happily.

3. Title: (still untitled, sorry!)
Genre: Kidfic, some drama and angst
Fandom/Universe: Gotham-verse pre-reboot (specifically, goes AU after the events of Red Hood: Lost Days)
Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd/Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, past Jason Todd/Talia al Ghul
Warnings: none
Summary: Jason is getting ready to start his reign as the Red Hood when he overhears a conversation that will change his life. He ends up giving up his plans for revenge and taking on a new identity so he can raise the son he never thought he'd have. When his safety and anonymity are threatened by the Wayne Foundation 's representative, Tim Drake-Wayne, all Jason can do is keep his head down and hope for the best - but he may have to redefine "best" in order for that to work out.

Notes for the fanworker: Most of the story takes place in suburbia, and there are lots of kidfic moments - daddy Jason and baby Damian in the park, at the zoo, or napping flopped on the sofa. There are a bunch of couple moments with Jason and Tim as well. There are a few scenes that take place in Gotham and in an undisclosed safe house near the start of the fic, but the main parts (and probably the parts you'll want to work with) are in the suburbs.

4. Title: One Day You Fell Down From The Sky
Genre: AU, romance, supernatural
Fandom/Universe: New 52 Bat Family and Outlaws with a couple of characters from JLA Dark
Characters/Pairings: Jason/Dick, background Kori/Roy, Tim, Damian, Bruce
Warnings: canon style violence, sex, major character death, demons, mind control, bad language, angst and fluff.
Summary: After the events of Death of the Family, Jason finds that his anger towards Bruce is finally fading for good. But in it's absence something else is happening. Dreams he's knows are important but can't remember, seeing things other people can't and a magical sword he can apparently make appear out of nowhere.

He has to return to Gotham to figure out what's happening and, of course, the family get involved. Dick makes it his personal mission to help Jason which leads to a whole other set of problems as they grow closer.

The story goes AU after Death of the Family and Red Hood and the Outlaws #18, uses lots of Batman Inc #8 and twists a load of canon elements to suit story. The story is mainly set in Gotham and despite all the warnings it does have a happy ending, I promise ;)

5. Title: The Fall
Genre: action, romance, hurt/comfort
Fandom/Universe: Batman, Nightwing
Characters/Pairings: Tim/Dick, Jason/Dick
Warnings: none (canon typical violence, Tim is sixteen, sexual content in form of masturbation)
Summary: In which Tim is love with Dick and hopeful Dick might be feeling something for him in return, until Jason comes back from the dead.
This is a Red Hood AU in a way. Tim centric.
“Jason,” Dick said.
“Robin,” Jason corrected gently, burying his head in Dick’s shoulder. He was bigger than Dick now. Not much, but a bit. Just enough. Behind Jason’s broad back Tim couldn’t see Dick at all. Only Dick’s hands, where he held on to Jason tightly. Jason was a wall and he was dividing them. Jason would not be a danger to Dick, Tim knew, but he wasn’t so sure about himself.

6. Title: Strike the Statement
Genre: Romance
Fandom/Universe: DCU (Comics)
Characters/Pairings: developing Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson, Ted Grant, Tiffany Fox, Tom Bronson, Alfred Pennyworth
Warnings: Mild descriptions of violence/injuries
Summary: After his parents are killed in a hit put out by Tony Zucco, Dick Grayson resolves to follow in their footsteps by any means necessary. Leaving the circus for Grant's Gym in New York is the first of many steps that Dick takes in order to become a masked hero.

Eight years later, Bruce Wayne receives word of a new crime-fighter in Manhattan that seems to be running wild under the noses of the JSA. This "Robin" is a hard hitting, wise-cracking hero and Bruce is immediately suspicious of his motives and his methods.
If the JSA isn't able to keep Robin in check, maybe the Batman might have better luck setting him straight.

7. Title: Scenes From An Alternate Universe (working title)
Genre: canon AU, family, humor, angst, slice-of-life
Fandom/Universe: Batman comics, Robin Annual #4
Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth
Warnings: one scene of child abuse (Bruce hits Dick and apologizes and tries to convince Dick to move out, issue is not fully resolved)
Summary:
This is an AU, wherein Bruce Wayne is not Batman, yet he still fights crime and still adopts Dick Grayson, a boy who is not Nightwing but was once a Flying Grayson.

In this story, Dick has come to live with Bruce and we see windows into their lives over the years as they learn to form a family together. This includes a few fights, a trip to the zoo, Dick's first foray into professional gymnastics, Bruce's forays into trapeze swinging, an offer made but not taken, and a dramatic save. (Plus a cameo from one of Dick's friends from a more familiar universe.)

Super-family
8. Title: First & Everlasting Love
Genres: Angst, Drama, Mystery
Fandom/Universe: Batman Begins/Smallville
Characters/Pairings: Clark/Bruce, Martha, Ollie/Chloe, Lex (mention of Clark/Lex), Zod
Warnings: Some violence in Chapter 16, but nothing too graphic.
Summary: A weary Clark and Bruce head to Smallville for some much-needed rest but the ruins of the Luthor mansion keep drawing Clark to their faded glory. His memories of the good times with Lex in the early days of their friendship/romance keep haunting him, which jeopardizes his current relationship with Bruce. It’s also the place where an old enemy is paving the way for a re-appearance for a final confrontation with the World's Finest.

Artist's Notes: The story takes place divided between the Kent farm and the ruins of the Luthor castle in Smallville. I wrote descriptions in my text but of course the artist is free to add what they think would work. I'm especially looking for shafts of sunlight piercing the gloom of the ruins. I'd like to see some rainbow colors because the leaded glass window with its array of colors somehow survived.

Young Justice
9. Title: And then the nature of us
Genre: romance, gen
Fandom/Universe: Young Justice Cartoon, Earth-16
Characters/Pairings: Koy, TulaGarth, Aquatrio (TulaKaldurGarth), JadeRoy of sorts, building polyamorous OT5 (of sorts)
Warnings: the building of polyamory
Summary: Kaldur and Roy are in an established relationship, and with polyamory a pretty common thing in Atlantis, the two of them are attempting to work on the dynamics of having a more open arrangement -- mainly because of Kaldur's important relationships with Tula and Garth both. Roy hasn't necessarily been trying his hardest as of late to be clear and open with how he feels about the whole thing on this side of trying, but now he is -- with varying effects. Kaldur is trying his best to keep up with Roy and figure out what's happening in his relationships, but he's also multitasking and juggling leading the team and overseeing its new developments -- as well as his mounting royal duty back home in Atlantis. Things are hectic and yet only slowly changing in both Kaldur's homes, and Kaldur's just trying to get through another day and make it all work out somehow. Diverges from Season 2 to the point of AU.

Crossovers
10. Title: Stolen Hope
Genre: Romance, drama, family, adventure, action
Fandom/Universe: Justice League Unlimited/Torchwood/Doctor Who
Characters/Pairings: Bruce/Clark, Connor/Tim, Barbara/Kara, Roy/Dick, Alfred, Ianto Jones, Dinah/Helena/Oliver, Diana/Steve, Wally West, John Stewart/Shayera, Ace the bat-hound, Krypto, J’onn Jones, 9th Doctor, Rose Tyler and Jack Harkness
Warnings:Children kidnapping, talk of slavery of children
Summary: Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent have adjusted to married life and the fact that their son Ianto is aging faster than he should they are still happy. Then their world falls apart when slave traders from another world begin kidnapping children including their son Ianto. Along their investigation they end up meeting the mysterious Doctor and his two companions who seem to know more than they should. Can they save their son and the other children before it is too late?
