Jim had to hurry after his meeting with Barnett, his mind still racing with all of the information he'd received that afternoon. He let himself into his room and shucked his uniform, setting it aside with uncharacteristic care before going to take a shower, the water hot and almost stinging as he quickly scrubbed clean.

Captain. Of the EnterpriseHe had left Barnett's office with another round of meetings scheduled, this time with crew rosters to complete and regulations to review. Jim would like to have said he felt lighter than air on the walk back to his room, but in all honesty he had no idea. Now that it had finally happened, it was a hell of a lot to take in ( ... )

Rocking on his heels, Bones kept his hands in the pockets of his trousers to keep from fidgeting with them.

Then the door slid open, and there was Jim, wearing a blue shirt. Damn, Bones really liked when Jim wore blue, made his eyes look like the sky. "Hey there," he said casually, trying not to sound too nervous.

"Hi." Jim couldn't help the broad grin on his face as he stepped aside, motioning Bones inside. He wasn't sure why this felt so different. Normally, either one of them would just barge in as soon as the other had opened the door, generally talking nonstop. "I guess you got my note." Jim flushed a little, his hand raising to scratch the back of his neck.

"I just have to..." He motioned at the desk, his comm and credit chip still sitting where he'd dropped them. Slipping them into his pocket, he turned and caught Bones' eye, chuckling at how the two of them were behaving. Jim moved into his space, just watching him for a long moment before leaning in for a soft, lingering kiss.

"Hello again," he said when the kiss ended.

"Hey," he murmured quietly as his eyes slowly opened up after that surprise kiss. One thing Leonard knew for sure - being 'with Jim' was going to keep him on his toes. Up close he could see every shade of blue in Jim's eyes, dozens of them, enough to keep a more poetic man than him writing books. "Yeah, I got your note," he grinned, thinking about Jim's words and his plans for later.

"I borrowed a car so we wouldn't have to shuttle in," he added, reaching down to take Jim's hand in his and squeezed. "You ready, or you need some more time..."

Going on a date with Jim. Fuck. This was going to be amazing, if it all went right.
