For typing, the MSI Wind is great. I love mine :)

Ditto. Took it on our Israel trip and did massive amounts of blogging on it. Then brought it to MIT as my main computer for Mystery Hunt. I've written large swaths of my Talmud translation work on it (www.dafcast.net).

Keyboard is surprisingly comfortable despite being slightly undersized. The trackpad stinks but I simply used a bluetooth travel mouse instead.

If quality isn't an issue, then I really like my aiptek because it's really easy to transfer stuff and it's simple, small and cheap.

The two biggest flaws are that the sound isn't great and my friend got a broken one from amazon, so quality control might not be great. this video was taken with one almost exactly like the one I linked. The original video quality is way better than what you see there. I was still new to youtube and mangled the resolution.

But you might just be able to get away with a movie mode on what ever camera you get. These days they're pretty good and don't have a video limit, I think.

As for cameras, I've always loved my canon elphs, but I haven't owned one in years. I recently bought a fujifilm for it's dark light performance. I talked about it in my livejournal. One of the things I love about the canons is they have a all metal body, so it's retty rough and tumble. My first ones were replaced because I was upgrading. My last died because of a switch flaking out.

I really like the reviews on ... )

I hear good things about the Flip HD (there's also a non-HD model). More expensive than the apitek, but the difference in weight is huge: 1.4 pounds vs. 3.3 ounces. If I was going to bring it to Turkey I would care a lot about weight. If I wasn't, I wouldn't, more or less.

The 10 inch eee has a keyboard of about 95% full size. The 9 inch eee is a pound less and has a smaller keyboard but I've gotten used to it. although I wouldn't want it for heavy typing. You might be able to get the 10-inch with less battery? That would weigh a lot less.

The 7 inch eee is the same size case as the 9 inch.

You could get one of the folding keyboards, those get you the keyboard while keeping it very small and light, although not cheap.

I love my eee. I wouldn't write nano on it, but I fill up the firefox tabs with important info like google maps and things, for when I don't have wireless. I might write some of nano on it if I happened to be somewhere. It fits in my purse. I got an extra charger for it so I can stop carrying the plug around with me. I've dropped it down (carpeted) stairs and it still works! SSD rulez!

For brief notes, you might consider carrying around a voice recorder. It is less likely to get stolen and you can make quick notes wherever you are.
