Titans East base

At 7AM, Roy Harper is awake. Today is the day they turn that thing-- no, her-- back on. Indigo. Roy's not really sure whether this move is desperate or crazy, but it might be both. He can't sleep well at night until he knows every tiny bit of this has been cleaned up or examined ( Read more... )

Oracle's voice comes over the com. Oracle is online.

"You're coming in loud and clear, Oracle," Nightwing responds.

Part of him wants to tell himself he is there in case something goes wrong. He even has special batarangs on hand just in case, but really he isn't too concerned about that. Indigo hasn't moved an inch inch all these months she's been collecting dust on the watchtower.

No, really he's here for Roy. His best friend has been a mess these past few months, and there's very little Dick can really do to help. So when an opportunity comes to be supportive, he's there.

With special batarangs, just in case.

Cyborg glances up from where he's been looking at her internals. "The technology definitely isn't human. Any idea where they got her from?"

"Killswitch found her. Though, that could always be a lie." Roy still wasn't sure. "It-- she's from another time, I know that much. Hopefully she can tell us more; or if there's any more surprises waiting in a locker somewhere."

Ray stands in the hallway outside of the the Titans receiving room, smiling and chewing gum. In his hand is a manila folder and a data pad. Abbreviated versions of both were already sent to Amelia, along with the message "Wanna see more? Give me a call" followed by Ray's phone number.

Wherever Ray is, Amelia can't teleport to him simply feeling along his aura. She calls him back almost immediately. "What is this?"

"That is a partial schematic of the latest spandex project of the month," Ray tells her, shaking the papers in the folder with his free hand.

"And that sound is the rest of the data we have. Any chance I could get you to pop over to the Titans' East Coast HQ and tell us what it means? I can offer Wawa hoagies and Dunkin Donuts coffee in return."

"Yeah, just text me where I'm going." She's already wrestling shoes on for her first teleport jump.

The place is a little overwhelming, but then it seems superhero bases all have the same strange feel. Auras and personalities slathered everywhere, jumbled together, all tangled up and unintelligible and confusing. The security walkthrough was a trip and a half, but eventually she makes it to Ray.

"You've got some serious friends," Amelia smirks in greeting. They haven't seen each other in... a bit. Her fault, really.

Ray walks around his chair, staring at the screen full of code as he nibbles on a soft pretzel. The characters look similar to Colluan, but not quite. In Ray's case, this means they look almost like an alphabet he's never seen before. Sitting down, Ray cracks his knuckles and adjusts the headset.

"Ready to go on this end," Ray tells Oracle, looking between the main monitor and the already-translated operating system code on the monitor beneath.

"I can help you associate the characters of the modified language with main Colluan, but the rest is up to you and the computer-system version of Superman at your place."

The problem is my basis for Colluan is from a thousand years in the future and a parallel timeline, she admits. Oracle rubs her eyes and looks again.

This is a textbook example of why having a physical item-comparison for sensitive data is important. With information in a solely digital format it lessens the comparative value for basic information.

It would also help if the Colluans made jokes the rest of us understood as jokes.

"Or at least cursed in a way you can recognize as cursing," Ray agrees, his eyes still scrolling through the code as his program isolates all the individual character. "I probably heard him curse a dozen times before I realized he wasn't practicing his algebra homework."

As the team begins to split into different groups to handle different parts of the repair, Gear finds himself fascinated by the power source and distribution.

"I'll work on the power," he offers, not taking his eyes off the schematics for the generator.

Very unladylike, Amelia shoves the rest of a doughnut in her mouth, and wipes the powered sugar off on a jean leg. In a moment, she's got her coffee and is sitting down backwards on a chair next to Gear. He looks a little young to be here, but then Ray looks a little young everywhere he goes.

"Amelia," she introduces herself, putting a hand out. She's here to work, though. "So, I'm thinking those fractures are the cause of our power problem. If there's a leak, and that fluid holds enough charge, it might be frying parts of her innards, too. How's that generator look?"

"I'm still not sure," he replies, looking at the power generator and not yet noticing her hand. "We know it works by taking protons, converting them to anti-protons, and then colliding them with normal protons, and collecting the gamma rays into... this..." he points at a crystalline structure, "...which compresses the energy, and then it's distributed through the bloodstream. But the energy isn't distributing right. I think the problem is in the bloodstream itself somewhere or somehow."

He looks up, and blinks, noticing the hand.

"Oh, yeah. Um..." He shakes her hand. "Gear."

"Ten to one she's 'bleeding out' all her power. Clots, breaks, fractures-- tiny, arterial interruptions that could take us a century to fix. Even the Atom could only work so fast..."

She starts fidgeting in her chair. "Maybe distribution second. What happens when we turn the power back on, anyway?"
