A Day In The Life

Jan 18, 2009 02:59

Even when he was off doing the worst of his brooding, Wally had never entirely stopped doing his patrols. Maybe a little more infrequently and a little faster than usual, but he'd still done them. Now that he was trying to get his life back on track, patrols were the easy part to pick up ( Read more... )

Something blurs on the edge of his vision, like there's something trying to come into focus the faster he goes.

That's...weird. To say the least. Wally didn't stop straight away, mostly because doing so could cause one hell of a shock wave. But he did slow a bit, trying to see if it actually was there or not.

It flickers and fades.

Odd. It's almost as if he can see it better when he goes faster.

Which may or may not be all the more reason to keep slowing down.

He didn't think about it very long, though. Wally never had been known for playing things safe, though it's easier when you can run away faster than things can happen to you, generally. It's only a few moments before he starts pushing his speed up again, trying to get a clearer picture of what's going on.

The world starts changing, as they run. It's already starting.

As they run faster, there's that blurred figure Wally saw before. The faster they run, the clearer Max becomes, running alongside them.

Jay takes notice... but does nothing more than run faster.

The three of them will handle whatever problem they're going to encounter. Of that, he's sure.

Wally picks up the speed, too, nodding to Max as he comes clear. He's only paying the most perfunctory attention to the world around them. Either they'll know when they get to the right place or Max will tell them.

Nothing to do for the moment but enjoy the ride.

There he is, running alongside them, as they start to approach the edges of the Speed Force.

"It's good to see you again, old friend," he says to Jay. "I just wish it was under better circumstances."

There weren't any miracles in Wally's future. Not any time soon, at least.

Years ago, Wally had jokingly told Dick that he was the fastest healer in the world. While true, it had never quite been put to this much of a test. So it still took a minute or two for him to start stirring, groaning as he turned onto his back. He clapped his hands over his eyes, groaning louder. "Oh God. I think I hate the sun right now."

Jay doesn't complain. He merely shields his eyes, and focuses his speed into recovery.

Then he gets to his feet.

"So... when are we?"

Complaining IS Wally's way of focusing. Really.

He gets to his feet at the same time, tilting his head side to side to get the kinks out. "Not. Exactly sure. Thirtieth or thirty-first century, I think. Hopefully near Barry's place."

Jay looks around.

"Do you have any idea where to go to find him?"
