Inside and Outside

After a couple of minutes of working through the vent system, they manage to light down inside the jailing complex.   Sand's a bit annoyed at the amount of time that took...he had gotten used to seeping through cracks and all that...but he presses on.

Two minutes (and a couple of random guards KOed later), they find the holding area...and those ( Read more... )

Spellbinder looks on, noting the inhibitors on the wrists of her new playthings. None of them look overly familiar, but she can pick out the Star City Archer and his pet bruiser easily enough, and if she's not too badly mistaken, the others are members of the Outsiders. Part of her mind twitches to get the inhibitors off and see what kind of havoc she can make them wreak among themselves, but she has her orders. Instead she pushes out toward the closest hero, wrapping Brainwave in a sense of safety and relaxation. Once he's laying down she tightens the illusion around him, trapping him in his own little world ( ... )

Ollie scowled as Brainwave fell, pulling out his all purpose boxing glove arrow and scanning the surroundings. "Heads up."

Brainwave lay on the turf with a cruel little smile on his face. Inside of his head, of course, he was master of all he surveyed, basking in the adoration of not only the common masses but of the mightest of the mighty. Black Adam on bended knee, looking up with quiet serenity and total trust.

He would rebuild Khandaq into a nation numbered among the greats of all time. Ancient Rome would pale by comparison. Historic Greece would seem a collection of mud huts and natives with bones in their noses compared to what he would do.

In Caleb's fragile and splintered mind, time ceases to be a constant. He finds himself taken back some ways, ignorant of history beyond the moment.

He's not certain if it's the shock of having been set on fire that is holding him together, or the numbness of his sister's charred body beside him. There's no need to wait for Tara's pronouncement of death: His Birdie's soul isn't there anymore. There is no mistaking it: Amelia has expired.

He'll never know why she attacked them him. He'll never know why she helped Phillip, of all people. One day Corrine might come back, but nothing she could possibly say will ever alter what happened. His birdie is still dead. Burned, maimed, mutilated at by Corrine Therese's malevolence, and there wasn't a thing he could do but stand by, and watch it happen.

Neron is long gone, but as his own burned form lays motionless upon the ground, arms still wrapped around the lifeless hulk that a minute ago was his sister, Caleb's plan takes form...

Months have passed, and it's since become quite ( ... )

And then...boom.

Sand remote-detonates the Kobra Bomb, and immediately, all communication to and from the island is immediately, violently severed. "Go." Sand says over the com to whoever is listening, as he presses a button on his inhibitor that causes it to fall into the ground.

He then rounds the corner and engulfs the two metas, along with the stationed guards, in a wave of sand.

Knockout sees the wave coming but doesn't react in time, and swallows sand.

Icicle is a bit faster, he even manages to get to his comm unit before the wave hits. "We got..." is all that manages to get out of his mouth.

As the initial wave clears a path to the holding cell for the Mother of Champions, Eve motions Tara forward. "Door looks like it can be ripped off, you have the strength for that?" she says to Tara.

Noah Kuttler looks at the screen and frowns. He then gets onto a different frequency. "Mirror Master, we have a problem. Communications with Costa Linda have just been severed..." He looks at some readings. "...and I think I know why and it's not good. Get the word out with your cell and start looking into possible ways in."

Noah knows it won't work at first...they had tried to send a group in after Kobra several months ago and somehow the mirrors wouldn't allow passage into the area. He starts working on trying to find schematics on whatever is generating the energy as he knows the U.S. goverment got their hands on that technology after the Cuba incursion.

Once hitting the surface, Sand merged with the ground. Good thing, too. He recognized the male...the cyberpunk version of the Thinker, according to his recollection...but the female was unknown, and the obvious threat.

A silicoid hand raises out, points at the Chimp, then at the girl about 100 some odd yards away, then Sand moves back inground.

The chimp moves quietly, sticking to the shadows... then jumps out at the female from behind, shoving his weight onto her back to get her to stagger and fall over.

"What the he..." Spellbinder falls straight down and falls headfirst onto a rock. It's not enough to knock her out, but it's sure enough to ring her bell and shake up the concentration a good bit.

Chimps can be very dangerous. Spellbinder is about to find out what it means when a great deal of strength is compacted in a small frame.

He wails on her back.

"Stay down!" he orders.

Hank, trapped in his fantasy of complete control and total amorality, frowned as he studied the world about him.

Something was ... not right. Off. Skewed. So, leaving his body behind with an ease that was startling, he set off to explore the nature of the disturbance. It was psionic - kind of - and he didn't control it.

Therefore, it shouldn't exist.

He grabbed a hold of the conduit and pulled, making it big enough for him to force his consciousness through. He followed it back into ... well, it didn't matter really. All that did matter is that there were more conduits, more things he did not control.

Unfortunate.

He began to broadcast through the conduits, bringing whatever it was on the other side to himself. He needed to know them, to understand them before he could control everything they led to.

The storm has been pouring down rain for hours, it's lightning filling the sky time and time again. Recent months have seen Caleb come to love these storms, as they provide the perfect camouflage for his hunting trips. He sneaks in, hits his target, and...

Suddenly, he's having some trouble focusing. A heady feeling is overpowering for a few moments, but quickly fades away.

That's peculiar, Caleb notes before taking notice of a familiar feeling. He straightens, and casually turns to greet it.

He pulls the cigarette from his lips, and tosses it at the man's feet. "Hell let you out?"

Carmichael frowns. "He's gotten through. Time to get more direct."

He reaches out mentally to Brainwave, still in a depowered state, to attempt the equivalent of a psychic lobotomy...

...and the earth moves beneath him, then erupts outward, sending Carmichael flying.

Sand reforms, then nails the dazed Lady Spellbinder with a right cross that knocks her unconscious before reforming. Green Shield and Rex are right behind. "Get the inhibitors off of them, fast, before..."

***THUNK***

A knife, flying in from about 50 feet away, embeds itself into Sand's ribcage, sending him to his knees.
