Brave and the Bold: Show me the Monet

The opulent Gotham auction house was a hive of bustling activity. Private collectors from all over the world have gathered, hoping to procure one or more of the rarer lots from the “Art Through the Ages” themed collection. The collection, which contained items spanning nearly four thousand years of history, was displayed throughout the room for the ( Read more... )

Ian McDougal has already been through all the items. He's not here to purchase anything of course. He couldn't afford the opening bid on the cheapest item here.

No, he's here in a professional capacity. He was hired to authenticate the older pieces. While he's lost his professorial position, at least his anthropology, archaeology, and history degrees aren't completely going to waste.

While this isn't how he wanted to spend his life, at least the pay is decent for this job. Hopefully all goes well, and they'll keep him on for more than a single auction.

For now, he stands in the background, watching people file past the items, making himself available for any buyers with questions, leaving a polite, professional smile plastered on his face. He glances at the comic books and shakes his head, somewhat ruefully. Superheroes. It was nothing like a comic book.

In his brief time as the Green Knight, he's faced a few small-time crooks, as well as the mythical Morgaine Le Fay. But it's never fun or exciting. It's dangerous and ( ... )

Eddie Silver definitely is out of place here. Even with the allowance Bruce gives him, he couldn't afford anything in this place. He's here on business too. Bruce Wayne had donated a few art pieces to the auction and Eddie had been asked to bring them by. Once he'd done so, Eddie noticed there would be comics at this auction.

And that's where he's headed now. He may not be able to buy any of the comics but he can at least look and learn. Of course, his luck with dodging and ducking around people only lasts so long. Turning away from a woman that was giving him a look of annoyance, Eddie bumps right into the man turning away from the comics and stumbles back.

"Ow...s-s-s-sorry, sir," he chimes quickly, looking up at Ian and hoping he's not about to get into trouble.

Ian helps the teen stabilize himself. "You okay there?" he asks.

This kid's a bit young to be at an auction like this, he thinks to himself. Must be here with his parents or something.

Eddie smiles and nods quickly. "Yep," he replies. "Sorry about w-w-walking into you. Wasn't watching where I was g-going," the teen goes on, blushing faintly.

The hubbub of the auction house abruptly dies down as the huge wooden double doors that served as the primary entrance to the hallway, splintered and fell to the floor with a resounding crash. As the faint trails of smoke in the doorway began to clear the bewildered onlookers were confronted with sight of Crazy Quilt choking on the wispy fumes. With a cough to clear he lungs, he shot the best spiteful look one could manage with blank sightless eyes at the mook responsible.

“You fool” he hissed angrily “You’ve ruined my masterful entrance... .” Rallying, he hoped, spectacularly he turned to confront the somewhat bemused crowd. “Ladies and gentlemen we have an unexpected last minute bidder!”

A ripple of murmuring ran through the crowd. Living in Gotham city as a fair number of the patron did, eventually gave one a rather blasé attitude towards being robbed at the various events of the social calendar and indeed some of them were already reflexively beginning to remove their jewely. Many of the tourists seemed at least to be suitably aghast at this turn of events even if they were confronted with what appeared to be a garish amateur.

“The auction hasn’t even started yet idiot” one of the security guards heckled as a group of them moved in to take care of the intruders.

Ian blinks. Crap. Someone had to crash the auction, didn't they? He slips around a corner, hoping he can find a spot out of sight to undergo his magical transformation...

Eddie just about jumps out of his skin at the crash. Peeking around a few things, he jumps again when he sees the villain. "Oh b-boy..." he trails off, recognizing the bad guy. That mix of fear and excitement flares up in him once again. He's not allowed to go on patrols yet but Batman did give the okay for him to suit up in emergency situations. Tightening his grip on his backpack, Eddie heads around a corner to find a place to get his suit out of the hidden compartment in the bag so he can change. "Oh man, it's Crazy Quilt..." he whispers a he goes.

Of course, while explaining things to the police, he heard his boss looking for him. He winced internally, knowing that he wouldn't have a good excuse, and he was likely fired as soon as he returned to his alter ego.

So distracted was he that he failed to notice a piece of Crazy Quilt's technology being scavenged by a shadowy figure...
