Battle for Vega:

Jul 20, 2010 20:22

This scene takes place before Primal Things.Hal has a bad feeling about this. Another new law change... the Vega System is no longer off-limits. He flies through space, one Green Lantern in a massive flight of Lanterns... thousands of them. Led by one of the Oans, that one scarred by the Anti-Monitor during the Sinestro Corps War, they move ( Read more... )

"Hmm, the Oans are still acting out of character. I'm sensing way too many GLs out there for their typical investigative task force... either they know something we don't.... or they already have some idea what's here... which would be why they cut out this system."
At least with the smurfs going all out on this one, he's feeling a bit more free to use his ring to pick up what he can on the orange light.

"Let me know if you see anything unusual."

Larfleeze isn't paying much attention to what's going on inside his base. He's not aware of spies there. His attention is instead on the edges of the system, where the Green Lanterns have come to take what is HIS. Those nasty thieves.

For the moment, Travis and Tara have some breathing room.

Hal creates a fist and swings it at one of the construct-orange beings coming at him, a long serpent-like beast with a massive fanged maw and stringy hair dangling over its face. But as the green fist-construct starts to swing, he feels the construct dissolving away.

"MINE!" the serpent-thing declares, even as his construct vanishes.

"They're consuming our constructs!" Hal swears, moving out of the way, just in time to see a rookie Green Lantern torn limb from limb by four different orange beings, all trying to take a piece of him. His ring starts to glide away, but the serpent-construct swallows it. "MINE," it declares... and moments later, Hal sees an orange construct of that dead rookie appear among the Orange Lantern's ranks.

"We're in big trouble," Hal mutters.

Flying up beside Hal, Kilowog huffs out a breath through his nose and roars to the Greens around him, "Get yer dukes up, poozers! This ain't gonna be our last stand if I got anything t'say about it!"

He then looks to Hal, grinning widely as he knocks an Orange Lantern coming at them for a loop with a big green fist construct, and then declares "We're gonna beat this - just gotta hang in there!"

John knows the Guardians are bullshitting their way through most of this, and this whole thing is bound to blow up in their faces sooner rather than later.

As the orange constructs make their way toward the Green Lanterns, John thinks today might be when they start paying the piper.

He gets his green shield up immediately, meanwhile using his blue ring to create a wedge to part the ranks of orange constructs.

"This is gonna be one of those days. I can tell." John says.

He idly misses Diana right now.

It's worse than just "one of those days." Far worse.

The fight goes and goes without the Orange giving a millimeter. In fact -

Ring capacity 0%...Ring capacity 0%...

"Damn things are eating us alive!" a rookie announces.

"Ok, I have an idea. Stay hidden. I'm going to need you to get us out of here." he whispers to Tara.

That said, he lets the light from his ring flare as he darts out of hiding and launches himself towards Larfleeze, swinging a punch towards the alien. This must be some plan, frontal assault is usually not his style.

She has a bad feeling about this, but she's too busy smacking orange constructs with her longbow and firing arrows to examine it. The only thing she can do in the face of vast cosmic power is run for cover and pray.

Larfleeze sits in a pile of rotting food, watching the events transpiring out in space through the eyes of his Corps.

"How dare they come to my planet? They promised! It's mine and they can't have it!"

As Travis comes towards him, Larfleeze turns to see the Lantern coming, deflecting the blow with a shield.

"You got all the way here to challenge me, Green Lantern?" he demands. He unleashes a blast of power at Travis. "YOU CAN'T HAVE IT! IT'S MINE!!"

Travis goes flying back into a wall at the blast, wincing at the impact, but coming right back at Larfleeze with a series of ring-blasts in rapid succession.

"You wish, ugly."

Hal pulls back, finding himself back-to-back with one of his oldest friends in the Corps.

These Orange Lanterns, whether made of flesh and bone or simply construct-energy seem to absorb anything thrown at them. Several of their numbers have been torn to pieces, only to arise as orange constructs themselves, while their rings have either been consumed by the constructs or grabbed by the living lanterns before they could fly off to seek out a replacement.

"Any ideas, John?" Hal asks his friend.

"Take 'em with us!"

John Stewart of Earth, His blue ring whispers to him. What do you hope for?

Hell of a question right now. His other hand is screaming bloody murder. Ring capacity 2.45 percent!

"A piece of Ma Hunkle's mincemeat pie and to send these things packing!"

Sincerity confirmed.

With a sudden surge of energy, blue light erupts out of John's blue ring.

//Ring capacity 75.4%.// //Ring capacity 147.8%// //Ring capacity 278.3%//

All around them, every Green Lantern suddenly finds their ring supercharged to nearly 300%. The Orange Lanterns rings, on the other side, take a different tactic.

//Ring capacity 1.5%//

The unliving orange constructs, on the other hand, simply vanish into the blue light.

The blue ring, its duty done, rockets off of John's finger and heads back towards Odym.

Hal blinks, utterly confused.

"...what just happened?"

Larfleeze's focus on getting Travis's special ring is momentarily broken, as out in space, his construct beings just vanished entirely, and the living members he owns were just forced to retreat.

"...what was that?" His grip on Travis's neck weakens. "That was a BLUE ring! I've never seen a ring like that! I WANT IT!"

"Funny, you want all these rings, but you can't even keep a hold of your own." Travis responds, as orange chains spring out from the chamber walls to try and pull Larfleeze off of Travis.

"You want, and want, and want... but no one wants nearly so much as someone who's had nothing to lose. he adds, holding up Larfleeze's ring between thumb and forefinger.

"Its MINE now... but there is one other difference between you and me." he adds, even as the other Orange Lanterns begin to recover. This is their home, after all, close to the orange light. John may have bought them some time, but this isn't over yet, not by a long shot.

"NO!" Larfleeze screams, still clinging to the central battery. "That's MINE!" He leaps for the ring that Travis just managed to pull off his finger.

"I know what its like to lose everything I ever wanted." he finishes.

Just as Larfleeze is about to grab the orange ring, Travis flings it into the midst of the other Orange Lanterns.

"One ring to rule them all - here guys, catch!" he calls, even as he ducks away from Larfleeze.

"That'll hold them. C'mon Tara, time to go."
