30 Day Fanfic Meme
1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
2 - Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.
3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?
4 - Do you have a "muse" character that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
5 -If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
7 - Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
LOL Do I write OCs... FUCK YEAH I DO! lol What do I do to make sure they aren't Mary Sues? NOTHING! NOT A DAMN THING!
Okay in all seriousness. Yes, I write OCs, I enjoy the hell out of creating a character for a universe I love. I think it's silly to believe that the only people who would possibly make an impression on a character or be involved in a character's life are the ones canon shows us. It's a big world out there. Who's to say who these canon folks are going to meet tomorrow! That's not to say I don't love writing canon characters paired off with each other, I do! Love the hell out of that too! It's just two different ways to play with stuff I love to play with.
As for the Mary Sue question... I stopped caring if someone is going to scream Mary Sue at my OCs a long time ago and to be honest, I have a lot more fun because of that. That's not to say I go in creating the perfect beings that originated the idea of a Mary Sue negative. I don't. I think interesting stories and interesting characters have flaws and that exploring how those flaws and their flawed ideas about how the world works is what makes for the best kind of growth in a character, canon or OC. Are some of them self inserty? Oh yeah. There's a bit of me in all my Sues. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. I think that writing from my own perspective and not idealizing it can be fun or therapeutic for me or even a study of my own shortcomings at times. That's not all they're there for, obviously but some of that bleeds in, for sure.
Also, I love sharing this stuff with my fabulous friends. :D The MSV and the Sueniverse have been constant sources of ideas and plots and great characters for me for a long long time now and I wouldn't have it any other way! So thank you guys for all sharing your OCs and Sues and ideas with me! I love you all for it! :D
So what's my opinion on OCs? I think they're like any other character from a canon source. If they're well written and there's something interesting about them, I'm all in! :D
(BTW, for those not in the know... that icon I used? That's Thea Sobol... she's new over in the X-sueniverse. ;) I'm ficcing something up for her right now! LOL)

10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like and found you could?
11 - Genre - do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
12 - Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?
13 - Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
15 - Warnings - What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
16 - Summaries - Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
17 - Titles - Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?
